Denver Nuggets isn’t the only reason why Nikola Jokic is now famous, especially after winning its first NBA title; his horses male him famous too.

The Serbian has many horses back in his Sombor hometown and he always spends quality time with them offseason,

Just before winning the 2023 NBA title championship, Jokic told ESPN that he would buy another horse if the Nuggets won, which they did.

Horse racing is the other sport which he engages in whenever he can. In fact, he had a racing tournament to catch on Sunday after his outstanding play against the Miami Heat in the Game 7 finals.

“On Sundays, I have my horse racing… I don’t know how I’m going to arrive [in time]. I’m going to ask Josh [Kroenke] for a plane,” Clutch Point tweeted.

He doesn’t hide the fact that caring for his horses back home gives him a lot of joy. He has stunning images of him astride a chariot horse.

Given their wealth, sports celebrities often have strange collections, but a basketball player owning a large number of horses is unique.

However, Jokic gave up basketball to focus on horse racing in his teenage years despite being extremely talented on the floor.

“I had two older brothers who played basketball and I fell in love with basketball because of them, but then at some point in my life I started to go into horse racing. I just fell in love with horses and their beauty and elegance. It was like a hobby for me,” Slam Magazine quotes him.

“I didn’t get serious with it and I wasn’t taking basketball serious either. I was in between both.”

The Serbian athlete has the ribbon the horse won in his locker and now owns a racehorse by the name of Dream Catcher.

He told The Athletic during a past interview that spending time with his horses allows him to learn their character which is helpful when racing.

One of the interesting aspects about horses is they are differently talented just like human beings are.

There are those which sprint more than others, and some of his other horses are more intelligent than others.

His wife Natalija Jokic shares the same passion for horses as her husband and she always wants him home whenever he is not playing in the US.

The Nuggets survived the terrible shooting and a late burst from Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler to edge the Heat for a tense 94-89 victory in Game 5. Jokic led Denver to its first NBA championship in team history.

Jokic led the Nuggets with 28 points and 16 rebounds, and he was named NBA Finals MVP. This award means much more to Jokic than the two MVP awards he received for his overall performance in 2021 and ’22.

On a night when none of his teammates could score, he saved the Nuggets by going 12 for 16 from the field.

Denver managed to win the series at home despite missing 20 of its first 22 3-point attempts and seven of its first 13 free throws.
