Leicester City have officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager, signing a deal that will keep him at the club until 2026. Maresca, a 43-year-old Italian, previously worked as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City.

Maresca takes over from Dean Smith, who was unable to prevent Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League in the 2022-23 season after Brendan Rodgers’ departure. Speaking to Leicester’s official website, Maresca expressed his excitement about joining the club and emphasized the importance of the upcoming season. He stated that the initial target is to play their best football and gradually build their own ideas and philosophy, with the ultimate goal being to win games. Maresca is determined to give 100% effort, as he believes the club deserves nothing less. He also highlighted the need for continuous improvement, taking things one step at a time.

Leicester’s chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, expressed his confidence in Maresca’s appointment, stating that the new manager’s personality, methods, and ambition align well with the club’s footballing direction. Srivaddhanaprabha mentioned that Maresca’s coaching philosophy, developed through his extensive and diverse career, is in line with Leicester City’s vision for the future. The chairman believes that Maresca’s profile has been impressive for some time, and after meeting him and witnessing his enthusiasm for the challenge ahead, he is certain that the new manager will receive a warm welcome from the supporters. Srivaddhanaprabha is optimistic that together, they can guide the club towards success in the coming years.

Prior to his role at Leicester, Maresca had an illustrious playing career, representing clubs such as West Brom, Juventus, Sevilla, Olympiacos, and Malaga. He also served as an assistant coach at West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini. Maresca rejoined Manchester City last summer, working with their elite development squad after previously holding the same position during the 2020-21 season, where they won the Premier League 2 title. He briefly left Manchester City for a stint as the manager of Parma before returning to England.

Leicester City is aiming for a swift return to the Premier League after their recent relegation, which followed their remarkable title-winning campaign in 2015-16 and their FA Cup triumph in 2020-21. The club believes that Maresca’s appointment will help set them on the right path to achieve future success.
