Bayern Munich join in race for Arsenal target Kai Havertz

Bayern Munich and Arsenal are set to compete for the signing of Chelsea forward Kai Havertz, who has been linked with a potential move away from Stamford Bridge during this summer transfer window. While Arsenal had initially entered talks with Chelsea over a surprising move across London, reports now suggest that Bayern Munich has re-emerged as a strong contender for Havertz’s signature. Real Madrid had also shown interest in the German international in the past, considering him as a replacement for Karim Benzema, but they were reluctant to meet his high price tag.

Bayern Munich, currently searching for a new centre forward, had previously expressed their interest in Havertz back in March. Sources have now confirmed that the Bavarian club has intensified their pursuit of the 24-year-old and entered into negotiations for a potential deal.

However, despite Bayern’s renewed interest, Arsenal remains in the picture. It is believed that Havertz is open to both a move to the Emirates Stadium or the Allianz Arena.

In an earlier statement made in 2023, Havertz admitted that it would be challenging to turn down Bayern Munich if they made an offer, especially considering his German nationality. He also expressed a desire to work with Thomas Tuchel again, following their previous collaboration at Chelsea. Havertz acknowledged that Bayern is a massive club, and as a German player, it would be difficult to reject such an opportunity. However, he also mentioned that his goal has always been to play abroad and experience a new country. When asked about the possibility of reuniting with Tuchel, Havertz replied positively, stating that anything can happen in football and that he would never say never.

Despite his winning goal in the 2021 UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City, Havertz has struggled to consistently make a significant impact at Chelsea since his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. As Bayern Munich actively pursues Havertz, they are also engaged in talks with Manchester City defender Kyle Walker, suggesting that the German club is actively working to strengthen their squad in multiple areas.
