Alexis Mac Allister, an Argentine midfielder, has been officially signed by Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 24-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Reds that runs through the conclusion of the 2027–2028 season, and Liverpool is said to have paid £35 million for his services.
Mac Allister joins Liverpool as the Reds’ first acquisition of the summer transfer window and will don the number 10 jersey, which has been empty since Sadio Mane left in the summer of 2022.
In the 2022–23 season, the Argentina international became a household name for both club and country after playing a crucial part in the South American country’s World Cup victory in Qatar.

In six World Cup starts for Argentina, Mac Allister scored one goal and assisted on another. He played 116 minutes in the final match against France and gave Angel Di Maria an assist.
With 12 goals across all competitions, 10 of which came in the Premier League as Roberto De Zerbi’s team finished sixth, the 24-year-old also finished the season as Brighton’s leading scorer. Brighton qualified for the Europa League with that result.
However, Mac Allister’s contract included a clause that made it simpler for the midfielder to help negotiate a transfer, and De Zerbi acknowledged on the last day of the campaign that Mac Allister had probably played his last game for the Seagulls.

The addition of Mac Allister fits nicely with Liverpool’s strategy to bolster their midfield.
Long considered the main factor in Liverpool’s demise, the midfield has been under close scrutiny. Restructuring it provides a solution to their issues. Jurgen Klopp could look back on the purchase of Mac Allister as a crucial turning point.
They admire his will to succeed as an elite player despite having twice returned to Argentina for loan stints following his move to Brighton. Additionally, he didn’t play for an Argentina national team until he was 20. In actuality, he had just eight complete caps prior to the start of the World Cup and had never played a full 90 minutes for them.
His development was monitored up until he reached elite status in the Premier League and was singled out as a major target before the World Cup.
Since leaving Argentinos Juniors in 2019, Mac Allister has made 112 appearances for Brighton, helping the Seagulls in all competitions with 20 goals and nine assists.
He spent six months on loan with Boca Juniors before breaking through for Brighton. The versatile lynchpin strengthens Liverpool’s midfield as the Reds get ready to let go of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Brighton-bound James Milner on free transfers.
After completing the acquisition of Mac Allister, Klopp is rumored to want to add two more midfielders to his squad. Negotiations over deals for Khephren Thuram of Nice and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach are believed to have taken place.
