Ndidi earned through the contracts he received from various clubs that endorsed him building his net worth value. Genk paid a transfer fee of $197,469 with Leicester paying a sum of $21.4 million to Genk.

Personal Life

Ndidi was born on December 16 1996 in Lagos, Nigeria, to his father who is a serving military and his mother who is a trader. He is the firstborn in a family of three children, being the only boy.

His father being a militant, he grew up in the military Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos where he began playing football at the Command Children School, which offered him an opportunity to play competitive soccer passionately during sports seasons.

However, his father’s view was not on his son being a footballer, wanting him to concentrate on academics than the sport. Wilfred on the other hand was the opposite of the father and his views.

Since the father worked away from home, he moved to Natt Boys Academy without his knowledge and going to school was no longer there, as he trusted his abilities.

His father got to know when he was called up for the 2013 African U-17 Championship and gave him full support with fatherly blessings.

At Natt Boys Academy, he played as a striker with elder people than him. That was a drop in the ocean as he attributed his toughness on the ball to the knocks he received from the older players while growing up.

He grew up in a Christian family, a moral he still observes. Wilfred is married to his wife Dinma Fortune and they have a daughter together, Jaina Ndidi who is three years old. He studied a degree in Business and management at De Montfort University.

Career

Onyinye Wilfred is known for his defensive skills. Since childhood, he was a football enthusiast to the extent of joining an academy without his father’s consent.

He joined Natt Boys Academy with an agreement of a transfer deal from Genk at a fee of $197,469, making his Belgian pro league debut for Genk later appearing as a substitute. He scored a long-range goal that became a goal of the season in the Belgian league.

He got another transfer deal with Leicester City and Genk agreed an offer of $21.4 million, making his debut for the club in a match against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.

He scored severally on long-range but at one point, he was sent off after a defeat to Crystal Palace for the very first time.

Two years later, he scored for Leicester in an opener match against Chelsea.

Being a Nigerian citizen, he is eligible to play for his national team and was part of the Nigerian youth setup at Natt Boys Academy where he played at different levels.

While playing for the U-17, he was locked out after a test that showed he was slightly above the threshold. However, he stood tall and joined up the U-20 team where he played as a midfielder.

He was called up by the Nigeria national team where he played in matches between Cameroon and DRC Congo winning both matches.

The Nigeria national team called him for the 30-man squad to play for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, playing the following year at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In 2021, he also played at the AFCON Cameroon and was shortlisted in the group stage’s best team, bearing in mind that he played as a substitute.
