Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) displayed their best performance in weeks as they demolished AC Ajaccio 5-0 on Saturday.
Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring for the defending Ligue 1 champions before Achraf Hakimi doubled the lead from a close range. Kylian Mbappe then grabbed a brace before Mohamed Youssouf’s own goal put the hosts 5-0 up. A mass brawl towards the end of the game saw Achraf Hakimi and Thomas Mangani being sent off.
Whereas PSG drew closer to winning the Ligue 1 title, Lionel Messi was tormented by the home fans in his first game since being suspended. The boos rang down on Lionel Messi souring what was an otherwise much-improved display from the home team.

Messi was handed a two-weak suspension for missing training and going to Saudi Arabia for commercial reasons against PSG’s will. He apologized and his suspension was ultimately shortened afterwards. However, it seems the fans who earlier demanded his exit are still not happy with him. The Lionel Messi issue and boos could drag on until the end of the season.
PSG are now six points clear at the top of Ligue 1 with three games to go. The Parisians could clinch the title next weekend if results go their way and it remains to be seen if Christopher Gatlier has done enough to save his job next season.
On the other hand, AC Ajaccio have officially been relegated from Ligue 1 following the demolition at Parc des Princes. Olivier Pantaloni’s side could have avoided relegation if only they would have collected three points against PSG on Saturday.
How The Game Unfolded
After RC Lens secured all three points yesterday evening, the pressure was on PSG to secure victory against AC Ajaccio so as to restore a six-point cushion at the top of the table. Ajaccio have scored just twice in their last nine games and this was a sign that the Parisians would have a field day.
It was Fabian Ruiz who opened the scoring at the Parc des Prince, finishing with the outside of his left foot in the 22nd minute. Achraf Hakimi, who was returning from suspension, doubled PSG’s lead eleven minutes later, tapping in from a tight angle after the goalkeeper parried in Kylian Mbappe’s effort.
Ajaccio came close to scoring towards the end of first half but Kevin Spandanuda failed to convert his chance inside the six-yard box.
Mbappe got his first of the night almost immediately after the restart to make it 3-0. The Frenchman then added another before Marquinho’s deflected shot ensured PSG won the match 5-0.

Achraf Hakimi’s reckless swing caused a massive brawl at the Parc des Princes, forcing the referee to send him off. Ajaccio’s Thomas Mangani also received a matching order from the match’s referee as a result of the commotion.
