He was born on February 13 1990 in Paris, France to his Senegalese parents and is the fourth child among seven children. Sakho is married to Majda and they have two children, living in their beautiful house in London, England. He is a Muslim by religion.

Career

At the age of six years, he joined the juniors of his hometown club Paris FC, then to Paris Saint-Germain youth team where he trained as a defender since PSG had fewer defenders.

In 2004-05 season, he participated in two major events. He was part of the Ile-de-France region team that won the Coupe Nationale in the season. The same year, he was in the PSG U-18 team that won the Championnat national des 18 and league title.

In 2007, he signed his first professional contract at PSG on a three-year deal. Despite his age of 17, he was promoted to the senior side for the season. His first match for PSG in the season was at the Coupe de la Ligue where he played as a centre back against Lorient.

In 2010-11, he became the team’s captain in the UEFA Europa League. Sakho would then join Liverpool Club in 2013 at a fee of $22.6 million. His debut was against Swansea City which ended in a draw at the Liberty Stadium. For the  2015-2017 seasons, he was a backup to Dejan Lovren. He made his start of the season in a Europa League, in a match against Bordeaux. A few days later, it was announced that he had signed a long-term contract with the club.

The West African played in the Europa League quarter-finals winning against Borussia Dortmund. However, he was sent home by his manager for disrespecting the rules set for the squad. The manager cited that Sakho was late for the flight as well as the medical treatment session and the team’s meal time.

As a result, he was demoted from the senior squad playing competitive football with the reserves in the Professional Development League during the season.

In 2017, he signed with Crystal Palace on a loan until the end of the season. He made his debut appearance in a victory match against Middlesbrough. At the club, he was named a nominee for the Premier League Player of the Month. In August of the same year, Mamadou Sakho net worth got a major boost after signing a four-year contract with a transfer fee of $30.1 million, plus $2.5 million in add-ons agreed with Liverpool. Sakho has been playing for his France national team at different levels. He began playing at 13 years where he featured with regional youth sides alongside fellow youth internationals.

He also played on the U17 team in a match against Cyprus in an international youth tournament. The team reached the 2007 UEFA European U17 Championship proceeding to the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup.

He moved on to the U18, U19, and finally at the U21 where the team played at the UEFA European U21 Championship.
