Defending champions Real Madrid beat Chelsea 2-0 last night to take charge of their first UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

Speaking after the win, Carlo Ancelotti said that his side played a complete match and they’ll need to do the same in London.
“We played a complete match here. And we’ll need to do so again in London to reach the semi-final. We set out with the objective to make sure that we established an advantage for the second leg and we did that. Chelsea are a very good team and, in moments, we had to suffer.” UEFA.com quotes Carlo Ancelotti.
Chelsea remain with an outside hope for next Tuesday but will need to score at least two goals to increase their chances of advancing to the next round. The Blues will be missing Ben Chilwell, who was shown a straight red card for bringing down Rodrygo in the second half.
Real Madrid Beat Chelsea
The clash never sparked into the same levels of excitement as Chelsea lacked confidence in forward after failing to score in their last three fixtures. However, they started strong with Joao Felix threatening to open the scoring in the opening stages of the match.
The Portugal international could have scored after just two minutes but he failed to find a way past Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid eventually settled into the match with wingers Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior winning battles down the wings.

Vinicius Junior, who has been in great form, sneaked behind Wesley Fofana and tested Kepa with a low finish. The Chelsea goalkeeper punched the ball only for it to land in Karim Benzema’s way. Benzema’s goal was his eighth – five against Chelsea – in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Real Madrid kept piling on the pressure and Kepa had to show sharp reflexes to deny Federico Valverde a few minutes before the break. Chelsea’s hope of getting back into the game suffered a blow in the 59th minute when the match’s referee showed Ben Chilwell a straight red card for denying Rodrygo a goalscoring opportunity.
Frank Lampard’s men played in a low block afterwards in an attempt to avoid conceding again. However, there was little that the Blues defence could do when Asensio fired in the second goal from outside the box. Asensio had been on the pitch for just three minutes when he doubled Real Madrid’s lead.
Frank Lampard believes that his players could do something special at Stamford Bridge when they meet Real Madrid in the second leg.
