Powerlifting as a sport developed in the 1950s and 1960s as a medium of ranking the strongest weightlifters. Robert Hoffman is the brains behind the birth of this sport. He organised the first official powerlifting contest in the United States in 1964.

Over the years, powerlifting developed into a popular sport with tournaments staged at local, national, and worldwide levels.  As a result, the Worldwide Powerlifting Federation (IPF) came about in 1972.

It oversees and regulates the activities of the sport globally. Powerlifting has developed throughout time and currently offers a variety of divisions, including raw, equipped, classic, and single-lift competitions. The activity has grown in popularity as a means for athletes to demonstrate their prowess and engage in intense competition.

Thanks to the existence of this sport, people like Komiyama dared themselves and they eventually made a name. The Little Beast eats, breathes and dreams of powerlifting and she is content with this life that helped her curb an eating disorder.
