Early life

Georginio Wijnaldum was born on 11th November 1990 in Rotterdam, Netherlands to his father, Ramon van La Parra and mother, Maureen Wijnaldum.

The youngster began his football career when he joined the Sparta Rotterdam youth academy in 1997 at the age of six. In his first two seasons at the club, Georginio flourished, taking home two championship trophies. Before making his professional debut, he trained for an additional three years at Feyenoord’s development program after making the decision to enrol in it in 2004.

He received an invitation to represent his nation at the 2007 UEFA European Under-17 Championship as a result of his success at the young level. Georgio later went on to represent his nation in the Under-19 and Under-21 age groups before earning his senior squad debut.

At the age of 16, Georgino Wijnaldum made his Eredivisie debut for Feyenoord in 2007 against Groningen. As a result, he became the youngest player ever to play for Feyenoord’s first team and was named the team’s man of the match. In the same year, he scored the first goal in a 6-0 victory over Heracles Almelo. He achieved the record for the youngest Eredivisie goal scorer ever for Feyenoord.

Wijnaldum played 111 matches for Feyenoord over the course of four successful seasons, scoring 23 goals. He was acquired by PSV in 2011, and there he quickly made a name for himself.

Before the 2013–2014 season began, he was appointed captain after leading his side to victory in the KNVP Cup. He missed much of that season due to a back illness, but he came back in 2014-2015 to score 14 league goals and four assists.

He was sold to English club Newcastle United in 2015 for a staggering 14.5 million pounds, becoming Newcastle’s most expensive acquisition. The club’s season ended in disgrace and relegation, but Georgino stood out as the one bright spot. He participated in all 38 league games and scored 11 goals, making him Newcastle’s leading scorer.

He joined Liverpool for 23 million pounds the following season and stayed there through 2021.

Wijnaldum played a total of 51 matches for Liverpool in all competitions in the 2020–21 season, making 3 goals. He assisted the team in qualifying for the Champions League quarterfinals and securing a spot for the competition the following season. Wijnaldum’s final game for Liverpool was a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on May 23, 2021. When his contract expired, manager Jürgen Klopp formally announced his departure from the team.

Wijnaldum signed with Ligue 1 team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a period of three years. The transfer was formally confirmed on June 10th, and Wijnaldum presented himself to PSG on July 22nd. He decided to wear jersey number 18.

On November 3, 2021, in a 2-2 Champions League match with RB Leipzig, Wijnaldum netted his first two goals for PSG. On December 4, he scored his first Ligue 1 goal in a 1-1 away tie with Lens, salvaging a point with a header in stoppage time.

Wijnaldum’s loan from PSG to Serie A club Roma was confirmed on August 4, 2022. At the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season, Roma will have the option to make the move permanent under the terms of the deal.

International career

In 2011, he made his international debut, scoring the winning goal in an 11-0 thrashing of San Marino.

Wijnaldum scored his second goal for the Netherlands in a 3-0 victory over Brazil in the third-place play-off while playing for the Netherlands at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Due to a long-term injury, Wijnaldum was not selected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Personal life

The former Liverpool player has two younger brothers named Rogerio and Giliano as well as a half-brother named Rajiv van La Parra. Giliano and Rajiv are professional football players and have represented numerous European teams.

After breaking up with his high school love, Virginia Braaf, the midfielder began seeing Mirella Pereira, a stunning woman she met in 2017. Gini and Mirella have two children together: Jacián Emile was born in September 2017 and Julián Emilio will be born in April 2020. Ki-yeann Lia Elouise and Aysa-Mae are his other two children with his ex-girlfriend Virginia.
