Newcastle United strengthened their push for a top-four spot finish this season with a 4-1 win over Everton last night.
Callum Wilson scored a brace with Jacob Murphy and Joelinton also finding the back of the net. Everton’s only goal of the night was scored by Dwight McNeil.

The win leaves Newcastle United third on the table with 62 points, two above Manchester United who are fourth and eight above Tottenham Hotspur who are fifth. Everton, on the other hand, are still in trouble and could see their unbroken Premier League stay come to an end. They are 19th on the table with 28 points, just four above Southampton who are rock-bottom.
Despite being on the relegation zone with a few games left to play, Everton manager Sean Dyche believes his side can survive relegation scare.
“I think we can do it (survive relegation). It is a similar side to when we beat Arsenal, so there’s evidence it can be done. We need to bring the edge of that performance. We had that in the first half and it was a really good performance. Goals change games, not just the scoreline but the feel of the performance. You are still in it at home but you cannot let it change the whole performance.” BBC quotes Sean Dyche.
How Newcastle United Destroyed Everton
Newcastle United started the game shakily but Everton failed to open the scoring. Eddie Howe’s side then took control of the game and were able to flex their muscles as they moved forward.
Joelinton made a brilliant run in Newcastle’s left wing before cutting inside and taking a shot, which Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford managed to palm away. However, he punched the ball into the path of Wilson, who easily kicked the ball into the empty net in front of him.
Everton thought they had found the equalizer on the stroke of half-time but Calvert-Lewin’s goal was ruled off. The 26-year-old England international chased onto McNeil’s through ball before dinking over Nick Pope. The assistant referee promptly raised the flag as Calvert-Lewin ran to celebrate.
Joe Willock came close to doubling Newcastle’s lead but James Tarkowski was at the right place to deny the England international. Newcastle continued to move forward in search of another goal and had their tails up as the game approached the last 20 minutes.
Willock did an impressive job down the left before crossing the ball to Joelinton who was at the right place to slot the ball into the net. Wilson found his second and Newcastle’s third barely three minutes later in a fantastic fashion by curling the ball into the top right corner.
Everton pulled one back in the 80th minute as McNeil’s corner went straight in. Alexander Isak then produced a moment of magic, setting up Murphy who simply tapped the ball in.
