Scott McTominay was in red-hot form last night as Scotland beat Spain 2-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.
McTominay triggered an explosion of noise inside a charged Hampden Park after opening the scoring in the seventh minute.

After an impressive first half performance, the Manchester United star repeated his earlier feat to cause chaos in the stands again. The 2-0 win was Scotland’s first competitive victory over Spain in 39 years.
Steve Clark’s team are now top of Group A with three points above Spain and five in front of Norway. Scotland, who have two wins in two games, go to Norway on 16 June for an encounter which could determine their fate before hosting Georgia that same month.
Scotland Beat Spain
It was a big night for Scotland as they recorded their first competitive victory over Spain since 1984. Steve Clark handed starts to three players who had an impact off the bench on Saturday as Scotland beat Cyprus. Ryan Christie was drafted in for Stuart Armstrong, Scott McTominay replaced Ryan Jack and Lyndon Dykes started in place of the injured Che Adams.
On the other hand, Spain made eight changes to the team that thrashed Norway 3-0. Former Stoke City and Newcastle United striker Joselu was handed his first start following his brace in the win over Norway.
Scotland started the game brightly and within no time they were in front. Scott McTominay picked up where he left off as he opened the scoring in the seventh minute.
Spain looked for immediate response but Scotland’s defence was doing exactly what the fans wanted them to do – defend. Scotland came close to doubling their lead in the 15th minute after John McGinn picked out Stuart Armstrong outside the box. However, his shot went wide.
Spain nearly equalized through Joselu’s header but Scotland’s goalkeeper Agnus Gunn denied him with an impressive dive. The Espanyol striker then curled in another effort but it was off the crossbar.

Spain started to make a growing impact afterwards, keeping Agnus Gunn busy on his second Scotland start. Rodri headed over from a corner kick before Gunn pushed Porro’s effort clear.
Dyke had a perfect chance to give Scotland a 2-0 lead but his loop went slightly over the bar. This was after he beat Garcia and then lifted the ball over Spain’s goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
A few minutes after the restart, McTominay made things difficult for the visitors as he doubled his side’s lead. Kieran Tierney made an impressive run down the flank and McTominay was at the right place to volley hiss ball past Kepa. The goal triggered an explosion of noise once again at Hampden Park.
Scotland succeeded in keeping a clean sheet as they beat Spain 2-0 after the 90 minutes.
