Tusker FC moved up to second in the FKF Premier League standings after thrashing Bidco United 3-1 at the Ruaraka Complex, but head coach Robert Matano was seething at the number of chances his charges missed.
Goals from Rodgers Ouma, Shaphan Oyugi and defender Tom Teka handed the brewers three precious points at home, but it would have been more had they converted more of the chances they got.
“I am happy we won, but I think we should have won by a bigger margin. We wasted so many chances and we should have been more clinical. This is something that we need to improve on,” the tactician said.
He added; “But it is good to get that win and move up in the table. We should remain consistent and ensure these results become more and more for us to try and defend our title.”
The brewers had a good start to the match with Shaphan Oyugi’s strike being saved by the keeper while John Njuguna’s volley whistled just wide. They broke the deadlock however after 10 minutes. Skipper Humphrey Mieno clipped a freekick into the box, Ouma running to it and volleying it home.
The brewers continued their early dominance and had another chance when Mieno sent Shami Kibwana through on goal, but the latter’s effort on the half volley was deflected for a corner.
Bidco struggled to impose themselves into the match and their best chance was in the 32nd minute when an error in clearing the ball from new boy Levin Odhiambo saw Alex Keke win the ball on the right, but his volley went wild and over.

Four minutes to the break, Shami had another chance after being set up by Mieno, but once again, his effort was turned behind for a corner by the backline.
In the second half, Tusker needed just nine minutes to double their lead, this time defender Teka flicking a header beyond the keeper from a brilliant Levin delivery off a freekick.
They should have been 3-0 up in the 62nd minute when Shami did brilliantly on the left with a good run and a cross down to Eric Otieno, but the lanky forward couldn’t beat the keeper one on one.
They however had their third goal in the 74th minute when Deogratious Ojok, barely a minute on the pitch, ran onto a Jimmy Mbugua lofted pass on the right before volleying a cross into the area for Shaphan to finish.

Four minutes later though, Tusker were denied of the cleansheet when former player Peter Nzuki connected home at the backpost after a corner was flicked into his direction.
The brewers should have had more goals in the last five minutes of the match with clear cut chances. First, David Odoyo had a well struck volley from the edge of the box punched by the keeper and new signing Mike Oduor failing to connect the rebound home.
In the second minute of added time, Shami did one of his many mazy runs on the left before breaking into the box, dinking over the keeper but the ball was cleared off the line.
The brewers are now on 39 points, six behind leaders Gor Mahia who have played a match more.
