Fridolina Rolfo scored twice for Barca in the one-sided match which also had goals from Asihat Oshoala, Leon Cebrian and Guijarro Gutierrez.

Speaking after the win, Barcelona coach Jonatan Giraldez praised his players for the good work they had done against Roma.

“That was one of the most concentrated and focused team performances for some time. It’s great to be playing like this, a top match, in front of so many of our fans in this great stadium, and I’m pleased to have sealed our passage to the semi-finals.” Jonatan Giraldez said after the match.

Barcelona will face Chelsea or defending champions Lyon in the semi-finals of the Women’s UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona Beat Roma 5-1

Leading 1-0 from the opening leg in Rome, Barcelona were in for action against Roma who had reached the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time in history. Jonatan Giraldez’s messages over the past few days were borne out as Barcelona destroyed their Italian opponents.

The hosts took an early lead after Elena Linari’s clearance from Patri’s cross fell to Rolfo in the area. The Swedish forward blasted a powerful shot towards the far post to beat Roma goalkeeper Camelia Ceasar.

Leon Cebrian then put the home team in control with a stunning 25-yard effort that found the top right corner of the net in the 33rd minute. Barca kept on the pressure and scored the third goal of the match seconds before the end of the first half. It was Rolfo who scored her second of the night after Hansen’s cross found her in the box.

Jonatan Giraldez’s side increased their lead to 4-0 just one minute after the restart with Oshoala tapping in from Aitana Bonmati’s cross. Barca struck again in the 53rd minute when an unmarked Patri Guijarro headed Hansen’s corner past Roma’s goalie.

Roma pulled one back shortly before the hour mark to become the first visiting team to score at the Camp Nou in the Women’s Champions League this season. It was a superb strike from the edge of the area pulled by Annamaria Serturini.

Buoyed by a passionate crowd at the Camp Nou, Barca oozed class with the win over Roma. The Spanish giants have now won each of their last 18 home Women’s Champions League matches since March 2018 when they lost 1-0 to Lyon.
