Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie booked spots in Rio Open semis after winning their quarter final fixtures
There is a possibility of a rematch of last weekend’s Argentina Open final between Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and second seeded Briton Cameron Norrie
World number two Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie booked spots in Rio Open semis after winning their quarter final fixtures.
Carlos Alcaraz notched his third win in three matches against Dusan Lajovic after defeating him 6-4, 7-6 (7/0) on Friday. Before their Rio Open quarterfinals clash, Carlos had defeated Lajovic in the quarterfinals at Argentina Open last week.
Carlos is expected to face Chilean Nicolas Jarry, who secured a 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) win over Argentina’s Sebastian Baez on Friday.
Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie found himself in the Rio Open semis after beating Bolivian Hugo Dellian 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Briton will face Bernabe Zapata Miralles, who secured a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Albert Ramos Vinolas.

Speaking after his win, Cameron Norrie said that he didn’t start the game well. He just held on and stepped up when he was needed to.
“I didn’t start too well, was missing a lot of returns and not making points physical like I wanted to. [After the first set] I needed to be patient with myself. I’m not sure what happened but I didn’t make a lot of returns and missed a couple of first balls on my serve, which is uncharacteristic. I just hung in there and stepped it up when I needed to.” ATP Tour quotes Cameron Norrie.
There is a possibility of a rematch of last weekend’s Argentina Open final between Spain’s Carlos Alcarez and second seeded Briton Cameron Norrie. Carlos Alcarez, who won last year’s US Open to claim his first major, defeated Norrie at the Argentina Open final on Sunday in Buenos Aires.
Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Dusan Lajovic
Well, Carlos Alcaraz had to put on a spirited fight to beat Dusan Lajovic in their quarterfinals clash. The Spaniard trailed 2-4 in both sets, reeling off the last four games of the first before getting into another battle in the second. He managed 32 winners compared to Dusan’s 13.
Carlos’ 25 unforced errors played a role in the difficulties that saw him go down and early break in the two sets. He broke back with a stinging backhand winner to tie things at 4-4. He led 40-0 in the 11th game but surrendered his serve, saving a set point on the way to a break in the next game that forced the tiebreaker.
Speaking after booking a place in the Rio Open semis, Carlos Alcaraz described his match with Dusan Lajovic as very complicated.

“It was a very complicated match. Dusan has a great forehand, a great backhand, a great serve, very good shots, and today he has shown it, he has given a recital. But I was solid. In the end, I was very happy to have solved those problems. Those moments are where the very good players differ from the rest of the players, and I try to play at my highest level.” Carlos Alcaraz said, as per The Times Of India.
