Reggie White is a former American professional football player who played for 15 seasons in the National Football League (NFL).

Born on December 19, 1961, Reggie White was an icon in the NFL during his career days. The legend died on December 24, 2004, but he is still famous due to his achievements. White is one of the most awarded defensive players in the NFL.

He spent his career days in the NFL playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers. Reggie is a Super Bowl champion, two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, two-time Pro Bowl, two-time NFL sacks leader and 13-time Pro Bowl.

He is also a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame, Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame, College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The American was included in the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, NFL 1990s All-Decade Team, NFL 75th Anniversary Team and NFL 100th Anniversary Team.

One thing Reggie White was famous for during his career in the NFL is his Christian ministry. Nicknamed “the Minister of Defense”, White was an  ordained evangical minister.

Reggie White succumbed to cardiac arrest on December 26, 2004. The Medical Examiner’s Office of Mecklenburg stated that White’s death could have been caused by cardiac and pulmonary sarcoidosis.

Career 

Reggie White played college football between 1980 and 1983 at Tennessee. He registered 293 tackles (201 solo), 32 sacks, 19 tackles-for-loss, seven batted-down passes and four fumble recoveries in his college career.

Reggie White began his professional football career in 1984 with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL). During his time with the Memphis Showboats, White managed 23.5 sacks and started in 36 matches.

He joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 1985 after the collapse of the USFL. In his first NFL game, White made two-and-a-half sacks and ten tackles.

During his time with the Eagles, White set the team’s regular-season record at 21 sacks. He actually accumulated more sacks than the games he played. White spent eight seasons with the Eagles, achieving great success as an individual.

White signed with the Green Bay Packers in 1993 after becoming a free agent. He spent six seasons with the Packers, helping them win Super Bowl XXXI with a game-ending sack. He was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career in 1998.

White came out of retirement in 2000 and spent the season playing for Carolina Panthers. He made 16 appearances before ending his career again. Reggie White retired with 221.5 sacks in professional football. No footballer has broken his record of sacks up to date. In his 15 seasons in the NFL, White was named All-Pro in 13 seasons.
