  • Police have been in good form this season
  • Gor Mahia lead the table
  • Last season Police picked four points from Gor

A blockbuster clash between Kenya Police FC and Gor Mahia FC highlights Saturday’s action in the FKF Premier League. This is deemed as a top of the table clash with Gor leading the standings while Police are fourth, and enjoying good form.

Police have not lost in their last five matches with four wins and a draw and are slowly cutting their teeth as title hopefuls. Under coach Francis Baraza, the uniformed forces boys have lost only once, a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Leopards.

Nonetheless, they have been on a slow match from a poor start to the campaign and are now on 28 points, six behind leaders Gor. A win on Saturday afternoon will hoist them just three points behind the record Premier League champions.

Gor Mahia have yet to beat Kenya Police. Last season, they drew 1-1 in the first leg with Police coming off 2-0 winners in the return tie. Gor are out seeking revenge.

Within the Police ranks there are several players who are considered Gor Mahia legends on their own right. Musa Mohamed and Harun Shakava, currently partnering in the Police backline won the league title four times together at Gor with Musa as captain.

And now, they will be lining up that defensive line on enemy territory.

Gor have also been on good form, winning three of their last five and their title credentials looking ever so serious.

Head coach Jonathan McKinstry is optimistic they can battle for the crown.

“This will be one very important match for us because we have seen what Police can do and they are a good team. They have done well this season and it is not a team we can take lightly. We have prepared well for them and we will go all out to get a win because they are direct title rivals,” said the coach.

Meanwhile in other fixtures, Nairobi City Stars, winless in the last five matches, will be keen to bounce back to avoid relegation fights. They will take on Ulinzi Stars, a side that is also keen to battle for the title.

Ulinzi in must win tie

The military side are seventh in the standings and with only one win in their last five, victory against City Stars will be a crucial factor to see them rise up the standings.

In Mombasa, Bandari who have been playing hot and cold will take on high flying Bidco, the latter having lost only once in the last five with two wins and a draw. They travel to Mombasa on the shoulders of back to back victories.

The Bukhungu Stadium will meanwhile witness a Western Derby with Kakamega Homeboyzk, under new coach Patrick Odhiambo, taking on relegation fighting Vihiga Bullets. The cash strapped Bullets have lost all their last five games and are sitting bottom of the standings.

At the Ruaraka complex, fellow strugglers Mathare United and Wazito FC face off against each other.
