The contract extension talks have stalled, SportsLeo understands but both parties are keen to get a solution
SportsLeo understands that Chelsea and Mason Mount have not yet reached an agreement on a contract extension, but both parties are still motivated to do so.
Since last summer, Blues co-owner Todd Boehly has been trying to ensure Mount’s future, but unlike the quick deal struck with right-back Reece James, talks with the midfielder have been difficult.
According to reports, Mount wants to continue at Chelsea but is looking for a deal that reflects his status as a regular starter for both club and country. He also wants to know what Chelsea’s long-term goals are.

Although no deal has been reached as of yet, communication between Mount and Chelsea is still open, and club officials are still striving to put together the best offer for a player who is more valuable to Chelsea than any other club since he is a homegrown star.
The 24-year-old is still a priority for the Blues and they understand how important he is to the team. Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are keeping a careful eye on Mount’s position.
Although not necessarily connected, Chelsea is aware that their inability to reach an agreement with Mount may affect their efforts to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United, the best buddy of the midfielder.

SportsLeo believes that Rice won’t base his choice on what happens to Mount, but there are concerns at Stamford Bridge that any setback for Mount might complicate their efforts to entice Rice away from London, especially because Arsenal is also interested in a trade for the West Ham player.
Chelsea is presently concentrating on renewing Mount’s contract; after that, decisions will need to be taken on a number of players with contracts that are about to expire.
Along with Mount, other players whose contracts are up for renewal in the next 18 months include Mateo Kovacic, Cesar Azpilicueta, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Christian Pulisic.
