Deontay Wilder biography has it that he was born on October 22, 1985, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Wilder is of African-American descent and not much is known about his early life.
He graduated from Tuscaloosa Central High School in 2004 with the dreams of becoming a professional footballer or basketball player. However, an early marriage saw him do many jobs so as to provide for his family.
Career
Deontay Wilder began his boxing career as an amateur in October, 2005. He was at the time 20 years old and used to train at Skyy Boxing Gym in Northport, Alabama.
In 2007, he won the National Golden Gloves after defeating some of the well-known young boxers such as Isiah Thomas. That same year, he defeated southpaw James Zimmerman to win the US Championship at 91 kg.
Wilder competed at the 2008 Olympics as an heavyweight, winning bronze medal after losing to Clemente Russo in the semi-final. His amateur record is 30-5.
Now into the heart of Deontay Wilder biography, the American made his professional boxing debut on November 15, 2008, when he was 23 years old. He knocked out Ethan Cox in the second round at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Wilder competed in several non-title fights until on December 15, 2012, when he defeated Kelvin Price to win the vacant WBC Continental Americas heavyweight titles. He defended the title two times and then won the WBC heavyweight title on January 17, 2015, after defeating Bermane Stiverne.
The American retained his WBC heavyweight title ten times before eventually losing it to Tyson Fury on February 22, 2020. He faced Tyson Fury again on October 9, 2021, in an attempt to reclaim the WBC heavyweight title and also win The Ring heavyweight title but lost the fight.
