He is celebrated for his kicking accuracy and ability to impress when under pressure. The 50-year-old completed several of the most crucial goals in the history of the NFL.
Besides being NFL’s all-time leading scorer, Adam Vinatieri holds several other records in the NFL. He has the record for most consecutive field goals made (44), most career field goals made (599), most seasons with 100+ points (21) and most overtime field goals (11).
Vinatieri also holds the record for the most career field goals attempted (715) and most combined regular season and postseason games played (397). He was included in the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team and NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Adam Vinatieri will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2025, as per NBC Sports. His son, AJ, is a punter/kicker at Ball State University.
Early Life
Adam Vinatieri was born on December 28, 1972, in Yankton, South Dakota. He attended Central High School in Rapid City and was a letterman in football, basketball track, soccer and wrestling. Before starting his career as a kicker, Adam played as a middle linebacker and quarterback. He graduated from high school in 1991.
Vinatieri enrolled at South Dakota State University after spending two weeks with the United States Military Academy. He finished his college career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 185 career points.
Career
Adam Vinatieri began his professional career at the World League of American Football, which later rebranded to the NFL Europe. He served there as the placekicker and punter for the Amsterdam Admirals.
The New England Patriots signed Adam prior to the 1996 season as an undrafted free agent to be a kicker. Despite competing for a spot in coach Bill Parcells’ squad with 17-year veteran Matt Bahr, he soon became the favourite. He impressed in his rookie season and was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team.
Vinatieri spent the first ten years of his career playing for New England and then joined the Colts in 2006, where he spent the next 14 seasons.
By the time Vinatieri left the Patriots, he had kicked 18 game-winning field goals with less than a minute to go. He finished his time with the Patriots as the team’s all-time leading scorer with 1,156 points. The record was surpassed in 2014 by his replacement Stephen Gostkowski.
Adam Vinatieri continued to impress while playing for the Colts until his retirement on May 26, 2021. The NFL legend retired as the last active player to have played in the 1990s and the last to play before Tom Brady. Vinatieri’s 365 games are the second most by an NFL player, behind Morten Andersen’s 382.

How many Super Bowls did Adam Vinatieri play in?
In his legendary career, Adam Vinatieri played in five Super Bowls, four with the New England Patriots and one with the Indianapolis Colts. He won the Super Bowl four times, in 2002, 2004 & 2005 with the Patriots and in 2007 with the Colts.
The only Super Bowl Adam Vinatieri lost was Super Bowl XXXI in 1996. His side lost the match 35-21 to Green Bay Packers. Adam missed Super Bowl XLIV, which his team lost, due to an injury that affected him during the 2009 season.
