Ugandan Premier League champions Vipers SC have named Brazilian tactician Beto Bianchi as the new head coach on a two year deal. Bianchi replaces his countryman Roberto Oliveira who moved to neighboring Tanzania and signed for Simba SC.
Bianchi was officially unveiled this week in Kampala.
He will be deputized by fellow countryman Roberto Martinez with two Ugandan tutors; Richard Wasswa as the second assistant coach and former Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ibrahim Mugisha as the goalkeepers’ coach.
Bianchi has a rich wealth of experience and most of his work in Africa has been in Angola.
The Brazilian has worked with African giants Petro du Luanda from 2016-2019 and the Angolan national team – The Palancas Negras in 2017. He had also coached Another Angolan team, GD Interclube in 2021.
His vast coaching experience has taken him to Spain, Jordan, Belgium and Indonesia and is expected to bring in this experience in his first excursion in Sub Saharan Africa.
Among the list of priorities given to the tactician include helping Vipers to qualify for the next round in the CAF Champions League, with his predecessor Robertinho having led them to the group stages for the first time ever.
The defense of the Ugandan Premier League also tops his list of targets to achieve.

Meanwhile, Vipers have signed three new players as their rebuild towards the CAF Champions League group stages start.
The club, which recently named Brazilian Beto Bianchi as the new head coach have sign Martin Kizza from Express FC, Karim Ndugwa from Bul FC and Congolese attacking midfielder Robert Mwenge, all on two-year deals.
The three, all attack minded players, will add on to the Vipers firepower upfront as they look to not only defend their Premier League title, but do well in their debut of the group stages in the CAF Champions League.
“I am really, really happy to be here. l feel privileged to be able to don this great shirt with its famous crest. This is a dream. I am motivated to continue living my dream by giving my best on the pitch. I am honestly going to give my all in the Vipers shirt,” Kiiza said after his unveiling.
Meanwhile, Ndugwa notes; “I am delighted and proud to sign for such a huge club. I am looking forward to start of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) second round and CAF Champions League. I hope we can achieve great things together.”
Mucereezi to leave
While three have come on board, they will lose the services of midfielder Paul Mucereezi who leaves after the expiry of his contract. Rumor has been rife that he might be headed to Tanzania to re-unite with his former coach.
Mucereezi has been with the team since 2019 and leaves with two Premier League titles under his belt.
“I thank you for the opportunity given to me to be part of the great team. Like any great team, you encouraged me, assisted me, and made me better at what we do. Thank you for sharing the wins and losses, the triumphs and the tribulations. Working with you has been a true privilege. I am leaving you with a grateful heart,” Mucereezi said in a farewell message to the team.
