In their return to the Alamodome, San Antonio Spurs welcomed the highest audience to an NBA regular-season game, with 68,323 spectators in attendance for their matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

To commemorate their 50th anniversary, the Spurs played in their old arena.

At the end of the third quarter, David Robinson, a member of the Spurs Hall of Fame, made the official attendance announcement. “Spurs supporters have again set the benchmark for the league,” Robinson added.

Fans started yelling, “Go Spurs, go! The announcement was followed by “Go Spurs, go!”

The previous attendance record had been broken on March 27, 1998, when 62,046 people watched Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls play the Atlanta Hawks at the Georgia Dome.

Warriors star Stephen Curry praised the ambience, saying, “It was great.” “It was amazing to watch them celebrate their 50-year history, all the memorable events that have shaped this company, their triumphs and titles, and the legends who were present. It was amazing to witness, and only 64,000 people are needed to produce our greatest road performance of the year.”

The Warriors ruined the Spurs’ night with a 144-113 victory after losing to the Suns with fewer players than usual. In his second game back after a prolonged absence due to a shoulder injury, Curry scored 15 points in 23 minutes.

Along with Robinson, other notable Spurs players attended the event, including Becky Hammon, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili, who was in a suite. Steve Kerr, the coach of the Warriors, won two championships with the Spurs while he was a player, and he said that watching a video homage to him before the game made him emotional.

When they aired my video and introduced me, Kerr said, “It gives you chills to get an ovation from 68,000 fans.” “This was a very memorable evening. Knowing how fortunate I was to play for the Spurs while feeling the way I did.”

Despite moving to the AT&T Center to host its home games, San Antonio made a 50th-anniversary celebration trip back to the Alamodome.

The opportunity to watch the Spurs play at the Alamodome allowed supporters to remember a previous era for the team, despite the fact that the Spurs (13-29) are having one of their worst seasons in franchise history.

The franchise began operations in 1973 at the HemisFair Arena, but it was at the Alamodome that it began to establish itself as one of the most distinguished NBA teams.

From 1993 until 2002, the Spurs played at the Alamodome before relocating 3.1 miles to the AT&T Center.

While playing in the Alamodome in 1999, San Antonio captured its first NBA title, and the city’s championship celebration was hosted there as well.
