Anthony Gordon was Chelsea’s target last summer, and Everton reportedly demanded 60 million euros for his transfer. However, they have decided to sell him at a lower fee to Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

According to BBC Sports, the deal could eventually be worth 45 million euros. Newcastle will pay an initial fee of 40 million euros and then five million euros add-ons.

Anthony Gordon is the first signing Newcastle United have made this January transfer window. He is also the club’s second-most expensive signing in history, after Alexander Isak, who joined last summer for around 70 million euros.

Anthony Gordon was at Finch Farm, Everton’s training headquarters, on Friday after missing training for three days.

Speaking after the move, Gordon told NUFC TV that Newcastle’s fans base and city suit him. The England international believes he can excel at Newcastle since the club is going in the right direction.

“Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle were for me. People haven’t seen what I’m capable of yet. I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction. I feel like it’s a really big step. I think under the gaffer, and the way the club’s going, I can really excel here.” Anthony Gordon told NUFC TV, as per BBC Sports.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe said that he is really delighted to have signed Gordon because the 21-year-old is a top talent. The English manager is looking forward to seeing what Gordon can do while on a Newcastle shirt.

The young striker, who made his Premier League debut in 2020, is expected to play for Newcastle United on February 4, when they host West Ham United.

Gordon has not started a game for Everton since the start of this year. His last goal for the club came during their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on October 22, 2022.

After the transfer was announced on Sunday, Anthony Gordon posted a message to Everton fans telling them that they should stick by the team.

According to Gordon, who joined Everton at the age of 11, he will always wish the best for the team.

Gordon leaves Everton at a time when they are without a manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard a few days ago. The Merseyside club, who are in the Premier League relegation zone, are expected to announce Sean Dyche as the new manager.

Everton will give a portion of the fee paid by Newcastle for Gordon’s transfer to Dyche.
