FKF Premier League champions Tusker FC have resumed training after a short Christmas break, in readiness for the new year. The brewers have been on a brilliant run at the start of the season, winning all their first five matches.
They sit top of the standings with 15 points and are preparing for a busy January which will see them play six matches in four weeks. They will play two within four days, when they take on Vihiga Bullets at home On January 4 and then travel to Mombasa to play Bandari on January 8.
Head coach Robert Matano is happy with the team’s run so far, but wants his players to remain focused on the task ahead which is to defend the title.
“It has been a good start and we are all happy with how things have turned out for us. It gives us motivation to keep pushing. But that is not enough, we still have a long way to go. We need to maintain consistency because the target at the end of the season is to defend the title,” the coach noted.

They closed off the year with a 2-1 win over KCB and hope to start off the new campaign on the same note. Looking back at the game against the bankers, coach Matano says he was pleased with just how well his side coped with pressure.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and they will pressure us a lot. We gifted them a goal but I am glad we showed the character to bounce back and fight till the end. That’s the good thing about this team. We never give up,” said the coach.
The tactician now expects an even tougher 2021 starting off with a congested January that will see them play six matches within a three-week period.
“we haver to continue fighting because the season will not be easy. Everyone wants to be champion and we need to have that at the back of our minds, that we will not have an easy fixture,” the tactician further added.
Oyugi targets double digit goals

Meanwhile, forward Shaphan Oyugi says he wants to hit double digit goals this season after opening his account against KCB. Oyugi who joined Tusker last January had admitted he hasn’t started the season as well as he would have wished but believes the goal against the bankers opens up route for more success.
“I felt very relieved to finally score and now, I want to add more. My target this season is to score at least 10 goals and I believe that I can do it. We have a very good team and there is always supply infront. Now I want to work more on my finishing,” he said.
The brewers meanwhile intensify training before taking a one-day New Year’s break and back on Tuesday to build up for Vihiga.
