The Hardy Boyz, also known as The Hardys, is a well-known wrestling tag team that consists of Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy.

They were named the greatest tag team in WWE history by the promotion in 2012.

Jeff and Matt Hardy are real-life brothers who were born in Cameron, North Carolina, United States. Matt was born on September 23, 1974, while his brother Jeff was born on August 31, 1977.

The brothers began teaming together in 1993 as they wrestled in independent promotions. They won the NWA Tag Team Championship in NWA 2000 and then the OMEGA Tag Team Championship.

They joined WWE in 1997 and competed as jobbers. Their main role was to lose matches so as to make other teams look stronger.

However, things began taking a different direction for the brothers on September 27, 1998, when they defeated Kaientai.

They became serious title contenders and won their first WWF Tag Team Championship on June 29, 1999.

Jeff and his brother would later become villains after losing the championship. They began feuding with Edge and Christian Edge, a feud which went on for more than two years.

The Hardy Boyz are considered to be one of the tag teams that revived tag team wrestling in WWE’s Attitude Era.

In 2000, Lita joined the Hardy Boyz, and the trio became known as Team Xtreme due to their high-flying moves, which were ‘extreme’.

They participated in several ladder matches and amazed fans with their moves. In 2002, the Hardy Boyz split up after Matt attacked Jeff, who he felt was becoming more successful than him.

Jeff began getting into trouble with WWE as a result of his drug usage problem. He showed erratic behaviour and refused to go to rehab. His ring performance also began to deteriorate, and as a result, the promotion released him.

Jeff went and joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). On the other hand, Matt remained with WWE until April 2005, when the promotion released him because of unprofessional conduct.

One year later, the brothers returned to WWE and continued fighting for titles. They won the World Tag Team Championship for the sixth time in their career on April 2, 2007.

The team continued to wrestle in Vince McMahon’s company until 2010, when they left. The brothers went to Total Nonstop Action, where they won the TNA Tag Team Championship.

Jeff Hardy and his brother left TNA in 2017 after they failed to agree on a new contract. They made a surprise return to WWE at WrestleMania 33.

They won the Raw Tag Team Championship at the event after defeating the teams of Sheamus and Cesaro and Big Cass and Enzo Amore.

The brothers won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in February 2019 after defeating The Usos. They later vacated the championship after Jeff Hardy suffered an injury.

Matt Hardy continued to wrestle in single matches until March 2, when he went and joined All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Jeff returned from his injury and competed in singles until WWE released him in December 2021. He joined his brother at WWE and made his debut in March 2022.

They captured the IWC Tag Team Championship one month after their reunion. Jeff was suspended by AEW in June 2022 after his arrest because of driving under the influence.
