Top Kenyan female rally driver Maxine Wahome had an argument with her boyfriend Asad Khan which blew up to grievous assault that saw her arrested and taken to court.
Fresh details according to her statement indicate that the cause of the argument was her staying out late on Monday, December 12.
WHAT HAPPENED
She told the police that Khan was unhappy when she arrived home early on Tuesday after spending Monday night out with friends.
Maxine and Khan were both in a house when authorities were contacted, according to the Kileleshwa police station, in response to an assault report.

Police reports also indicate that the lovers were the only two individuals in the apartment at the time of the event. According to preliminary investigations, the two had a fight inside the home before Khan apparently tripped over a broken window pane, cutting his leg and causing severe bleeding.
It was a result of their push and pull in the house. Maxine went to the bedroom and fell asleep without realising her partner was bleeding and in danger of dying.
Khan managed to reach a cell phone and called his brother, who then phoned the police, after crawling from the scene of the purported fall.
MAXINE WAHOME ARRESTED
His family and the police responded quickly and rushed him to Avenue Hospital, where he was checked in and subsequently placed in the High Dependency Unit.
She was taken into custody early on December 13th, Tuesday. After being detained for a day on suspicion of assaulting Khan, she was eventually arraigned in court and was released on Sh100,000 cash bail.
The police requested that she be held for 14 days while they filed charges against her for leaving Khan with grievous injuries. However, Magistrate Benard Ochoi turned down their request.
Her defence team requested the court to gag the media on reporting about the issue citing that she is the victim. The court in declining the request noted that these claims haven’t been substantiated.
Asserting that Wahome is the victim and not the aggressor, her attorneys had Tuesday requested the court to order a gag order on the media so they would not report on the case.
The state’s request to hold her for two weeks was denied by Ochoi, who claimed there were no compelling reasons to keep the defendant in police custody.
She must show up every Thursday at Kilimani Police Station to meet with the investigating officer, according to Ochoi’s directive.
Maxine asserted that the man injured himself while he was hitting her and claimed to be a victim through the help of her attorneys. Khan is yet to respond to the claims since he’s unconscious.
His legal team told the court that no one really knows who the victim in this case is until the inquiry is complete.
IS ASAD KHAN DEAD?
As soon as reports on Maxine Wahome’s arrest went public, there emerged a series of rumours that Khan passed on. However, his family discounted these claims saying that he was in the ICU in critical condition.
Khan’s family had requested for blood donations. Doctors said that he had lost a lot of blood by the time he got to hospital. The crime scene also had a lot of blood from his deep cut on his ankle.

Wahome was also named the LG sportswoman of the month in June following her historic performance at the Safari Rally. She became the first woman to win a significant World rally Championship in nearly three decades.
She performed outstandingly to win the WRC3 Category in the Safari Rally, making her the first female driver to do so since Isolde Holdereid in the Group N Cup.
Sadly, following the assault reports, a section of Kenyans asked her sponsors – Safaricom PLC – to withdraw her sponsorship. They said that it is time they demonstrated their commitment to ending Gender-based violence.
