Gakpo will travel to England to complete the medical
PSV Eindhoven has announced a transfer agreement with Liverpool for Cody Gakpo. In 2022, the 23-year-old is in top form at the club and international levels.
Liverpool announced Monday that it had completed a deal to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.
Gakpo stood out for the Netherlands at the World Cup and was in top form for his club in the Eredivisie and Europa League.
During the World Cup in Qatar, the 23-year-old scored three goals for the Netherlands, who advanced to the quarterfinals before losing on penalties to eventual champions Argentina.
Gakpo was linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United reportedly showing the most interest. He was on the verge of joining the Red Devils and Leeds United in the summer.
After the World Cup, there was increased interest in the Dutch forward, but Liverpool could fend off interest from other clubs in signing Gakpo.
PSV issued an official statement on Monday stating that they had agreed with the Merseyside club to transfer the 23-year-old. According to the statement, Gakpo would leave for England immediately for medical and other formalities before the transfer.

Neither club disclosed the transfer fee, but PSV general manager Marcel Brands stated that it was a record transfer for the Dutch giants.
PSV and Liverpool FC have agreed on Cody Gakpo’s proposed transfer. The 23-year-old attacker will depart for England shortly, where he will go through the necessary formalities before the transfer is completed. Both clubs have made no announcements regarding the transfer fee.
“But this is a record transfer for PSV,” said general manager Marcel Brands.
“The PSV management completed the negotiations on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England,” read the statement.

With the top four firmly in their sights, Liverpool will be able to raise their sights in their pursuit of Arsenal.
The ability to interchange in the attack is a Liverpool trademark.
Gakpo has played across the front or as a second striker, but he has spent most of his time as a left winger. It’s similar to what Jota brings to the team when he’s healthy, but Jota’s availability has recently been an issue. Bringing in Gakpo will restore what Klopp was getting from Jota in the role while allowing the Portuguese forward to ease back into action.
When Jota is healthy, Liverpool will have a rotation nightmare with Nunez, Diaz,
With the same number of games played, the Reds are 15 points behind the Gunners, but a crucial week in April that sees Liverpool face Manchester City and Arsenal could define the title race. It’s unlikely that Liverpool will catch Arsenal, but it’s also unlikely that Arsenal will finish the season with only one defeat. Dropping a few games here and there may cause the Premier League balance to shift, and the Reds will be ready to strike.
