It is now evident that playing tennis is your best chance if you want to make money as a professional female athlete. A good number of the wealthiest athletes in the world are tennis players. This sport has some of the best names in the world billionaire and millionaire list.
But who made it to the 2022 list of the best-paid tennis player (s)?
Let’s find out who these athletes are.
WHO IS THE HIGHEST PAID FEMALE ATHLETE 2022?

Forbes published a list of the highest-paid female tennis player 2022 and it is a surprise pack. Beloved tennis star Naomi Osaka topped the list of the world’s highest paid tennis player in 2022.
This is interesting because Osaka got $51.5 million for the year despite a not-so-good season in the game this year. The stats come against the backdrop of a huge financial dip after investing in crypto investment firm FTX which ended in losses.
NAOMI OSAKA CRYPTO INVESTMENT FTX LOSSES
Osaka is one of several well-known athletes who suffered financial losses due to the most recent collapse of FTX Investment. She joined the ranks of celebrities who have joined the cryptocurrency startup FTX Investment, including Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, and Steph Curry.
According to rumours, Osaka purchased a share in FTX in March under a “long-term” agreement that would pay her in cryptocurrencies. FTX’s market value plummeted by an astounding 70%. It came as the company’s CEO went public to plead with investors for a $4 billion bailout due to what they described as a liquidity crunch that put FTX’s solvency at risk.
“In recent days, a liquidity crunch has created a solvency risk for FTX,” venture capital firm Sequoia informed the partners. The full nature and extent of this risk is not known at this time. Based on our current understanding, we are marking our investment down to $0.”
According to Bankman-Fried, FTX Investments has so far avoided going bankrupt. The precipitous decline in the value of the cryptocurrency exchange, according to a Guardian story, was caused by documents that were leaked.
As the firm battles a lawsuit, Osaka was criticised in the lawsuit for creating and directing a “glitzy ad” targeted against women and minorities and shared to social media to promote her connection with FTX:
The lawsuit stated that Osaka directed and created content in cooperation with the FTX Entities meant to promote the offer and sale of the unregistered YBA securities further and that she did this in the hopes that she would reach a global audience in exchange for an ownership position in FTX and payments in undetermined sums of bitcoin.
Despite all this, it doesn’t dim the fact that she stands as the highest-paid tennis player in 2022. It’s not yet known how much Osaka or any of the other FTX ambassadors will have to pay in damages to consumers and if they will have to pay anything since the complaint is still pending.
Sam Bankman-Fried, the company’s discredited CEO, is said to have fled to the Bahamas.
WHICH FEMALE TENNIS PLAYER IS A BILLIONAIRE?
Jessica Pegula may not be highest-paid tennis player 2022 but the American tennis player is a female tennis billionaire. Pegula, who turned pro in 2009, has the world No. 3 WTA singles and doubles rankings.
She attained this on October 24, 2022. The American tennis billionaire has two On the WTA Tour wins; two singles matches victories and five doubles matches victories. Further, she has one WTA Challenger doubles match, and seven ITF doubles matches.
