  • FIFA will introduce a three-year men’s World Cup
  • It follows the postponement of the FIFA event that was set to begin in China in 2021
  • The next world cup will take place in 2025

A 32-team men’s Club World Cup will be introduced by FIFA in 2025, according to Gianni Infantino.

It follows the postponement of the FIFA event that was set to begin in China in 2021 because of the pandemic.

Infantino stated at a news conference before the Globe Cup final on Sunday that the new men’s Club World Cup will thus take place in 2005 and would feature 32 of the finest teams in the world.

It will proceed, he said, making it comparable to an international World Cup with 32 teams, but the specifics of allocations need to be reviewed and agreed with.

Infantino also mentioned that there will be a Women’s Club World Cup in 2025, though no other information was provided.

The 20225 Cub World Cup will take place in Morocco in February and will feature teams, including European Champions Real Madrid.

A “FIFA World Series” concept is being developed, according to Infantino, involving friendly matches between four teams from various continents during the international window in March of even-numbered years.

The hosts of the 2030 men’s World Cup and 2025 women’s World Cup will be determined, according to the FIFA president, who also made many other decisions from a council meeting public.

FIFA earlier vacated its plan to hold the World Cup after two years.  At the 211-member associations’ convention in Doha early 2022, Infantino retracted the organization’s intentions for a biannual World Cup, claiming FIFA never came up with the notion in the first place.

The two-year cycle proposals caused a rift in football, with UEFA and CONMEBOL threatening to boycott the event if they received approval. However, with those ideas now being scrapped, Infantino said the football body was putting out a fresh design for how the football schedule might seem in the future.

The Sun at the time reported that Infantino wanted a new 36-month competition cycle that included a World Cup every three years. His ideas called for the first summer to be dominated by a Club World Cup featuring a larger field of 24 teams.

Continental competitions, like as the Euros or Copa America, would take place in the second summer. The third would concentrate on the 2026 World Cup, which will have 48 teams.

In order to provide national team playoffs and qualification competitions adequate time to take place, the World Cup is held every four years. The host nation also has enough time with four years to arrange the tournament’s logistics and how to effectively handle an inflow of millions of spectators.

Uruguay won the inaugural cup competition, which was held in 1930 and was put on by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Since then, and with the exception of World War II, the competition has been held every four years.

It comprises of international sectional tournaments that lead to a final elimination match between 32 national teams. Teams for the World Cup are not constrained to amateur or players of a specific age, unlike the Olympic football competition.
