Speaking after his appointment, Vasseur said that he is delighted and honoured to take on Ferrari’s leadership. He is looking forward to working with the talented team.
“I am truly delighted and honoured to take over the leadership of Scuderia Ferrari as Team Principal. As someone who has always held a lifelong passion for motorsport, Ferrari has always represented the very pinnacle of the racing world to me. I look forward to working with the talented and truly passionate team in Maranello to honour the history and heritage of the Scuderia and deliver for our Tifosi around the world.” Federic Vasseur said, as per Sky Sports.
Ferrari chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna praised Vasseur, saying that his approach and leadership are what the team needs.
According to Benedetto Vigna, Frederic Vasseur has been able to successfully combine his technical strengths and ability to bring the best out of his drivers and teams.
Frederic Vasseur will have the responsibility of ensuring that Ferrari’s operations are better so that the team can avoid costly errors like the one that rocked Leclerec’s 2022 season.
The Frenchman’s appointment makes a difference to Ferrari’s strategy of choosing team principals over the last decade.
Ferrari has been looking for team principals within other F1 teams since the departure of Jean Todt towards the end of 2007. Todt was the man who masterminded the Michael Schumacher era.
Stefano Domenicali, who was a sporting director, replaced Todt and led the team until 2014. Marco Mattiacci replaced him and led the team for just nine months.
Marco Mattiacci’s position was then taken by Maurizio Arrivabene. Ferrari struggled in 2018 under the Italian, and he was eventually replaced by Mattia Binotto on January 7, 2019.
Mattia Binotto is expected to leave his role on December 31 after announcing his resignation last month. He will be remembered for leading the team from the bottom of the constructor’s championship to sixth this last year.
Frederic Vasseur joining Ferrari will lead to a reunion between him and the team’s lead driver Charles Leclerc. The two first worked together back in 2016, then reunited again in 2017 and 2018 with Sauber.
