Team Argentina star Lionel Messi has spoken following their 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday at the Qatar World Cup.
Messi says that victory in their second match of the event. He boldly said that this victory marks the start of their World Cup as champions noting their loss to Saudi Arabia in the first game caused a lot of discomforts.
The loss to the Arabs was something he never expected, and it challenged him and the whole team to secure victory to proceed to the round of 16.
“Today, Argentina’s World Cup begins. We lived with discomfort, given the defeat in the opening match was something we didn’t expect,” he stated.

Messi explained how hard it was for them every other day after losing to Saudi Arabia.
“The days felt very long and we were eager to have the chance to turn it around. We knew it was a critical game. Luckily, we had the option to win and it was a weight off our shoulders, a reason for joy and peace of mind because it is all down to us again.”
Thus, beating Mexico was the only way out to securing victory. Argentina knew failure at Lusail Stadium would cause them to leave the World Cup as soon as possible after their shocking loss to Saudi Arabia in their opening match.
However, one of the pre-tournament favourites came out firing in the second half to guarantee that their fate remained in their own hands. The first half was close as both teams evened things up. But shortly after the hour mark, Messi had an epiphany that enthralled the Argentina supporters.
The 35-year-old found space well outside of the goal and took a beautiful first touch. Then he unleashed a strong low shot that continued eluding Mexico’s goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and landing in the bottom right corner.
Messi admits that Argentina didn’t play well in the first half, but we calmed down in the second half. They played better and scored. Argentina is currently ranked second in Group C, one point behind group leader Poland after their victory over Saudi Arabia earlier in the day on Saturday.

On November 30, Messi’s team plays Poland in the group’s last match. If Saudi Arabia defeats Mexico in their final game, Argentina’s point total will not be sufficient to go to the knockout round.
On the other hand, the Mexicans are still in the running, and a victory will give them a chance to advance to the round of 16.
