The Football Kenya federation National Division One League will be the third league to restart on the first weekend of September after the retraining of 200 match officials in their mandatory Physical Endurance Test.
The referees were taken through stringent tests to ensure they were ready and physically fit for the new season. The two day exercise was conducted at the Kasarani Stadium.
FKF Vice President Doris Petra presided over the closing ceremony that was also attended by FKF CEO Barry Otieno, FKF NEC member Anthony Makau, FKF Nairobi West chairman Caleb Malweyi, FKF Isiolo Chairman Hussein Dima, and FKF Kakamega chairman Allan Muhando.
The match officials drawn from the FKF Division One League were taken through endurance and agility drills to test their physical ability and medical tests to ascertain their fitness to officiate league matches commencing on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
They were also taken through football integrity classes with FKF Head of Integrity Mike Kamure and were shown how to recognize, instances of match-fixing, resist, and report suspicious activities.
Existing Coaching accreditation
FKF Head of Technical Department Michale Amenga also kept them abreast with the existing coaching accreditation regulations as well as the Federation’s accreditation threshold, in a continued effort to fully professionalize the FKF leagues.
FKF FIFA technical instructors Damaris Kimani and Moses Osano took the officials through the 2022/23 amendment of the laws of the game. Other instructors in the PET training included Margaret Omondi, Stephen Oduor, Tabitha Wanjiru, and Dorcas Moraa.
This training of referees came just a few days after the Competitions Department convened a meeting with officials from clubs. The meeting was attended by FKF General Secretary/CEO Barry Otieno, Head of Leagues and Competitions Doreen Nabwire, and Head of Integrity, Projects and National Teams, Mike Kamure.

The club officials were briefed on the preparations for the start of the league this weekend, with a review of the fixtures also conducted.
They were also notified that the FKF Men Division One League will have a total of 16 teams in each of the two zones in the 2023/24 season.
Update on Tribunal situation
CEO Barry Otieno provided an update on the current situation at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), which has caused the postponement of some matches until the case has been heard and determined.
Additionally, the officials were urged to formalize all player transfers on the Kenya Connect Player Registration System, in accordance with FIFA’s regulations on player transfers.
The club officials have been strongly encouraged to maintain the integrity of the game by resisting any attempts of match manipulation and reporting any possible cases to the Federation’s Integrity Department for further investigation and disciplinary action.
The 2022/23 season is scheduled to begin on Saturday, December 10 with eight games in various venues.
The league’s kick off has been delayed for close to four months as the country battled days of uncertainty due to an existing FIFA suspension and clubs boycotting the Caretaker Committee installed by the previous administration.
