World No.1 Iga Swiatek, is dissatisfied with the future scheduling of tennis competitions stating that won’t participate in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in November.
Swiatek’s plan was to compete for Poland in the finals, which are scheduled to start in Glasgow on November 8. On the other hand, the WTA Finals that are being held in Texas are scheduled to end on November 7.
The three-time Grand Slam champion stated that the schedule “is not safe,” adding that it made her feel “sorry” that she would have to skip one event.
She wrote on her Instagram that she thought it through and discussed it with her team but the odds are against her. Thus, she won’t make it to the Glasgow event.
“I was thinking it through a lot and discussing it with my team, but I will not be able to play at the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow. It makes me sad. I’m very sorry, because I play for Poland whenever it’s possible and I always give it my best.

She adds that it was a privilege to compete in Poland in the 2022 qualifiers for Billie Jean King Cup. Swiatek had high hopes of doing so once more at the conclusion of the current campaign.
The 21-year-old, earned her third major title in the US Open last month. This victory marks her second major success of 2022, following her victory at the French Open for the second time.
Swiatek will compete in the season-ending WTA Finals, which will begin on October 31 in Fort Worth, Texas. This event features a round-robin competition between the top eight players on the Race to the WTA Finals standings.
In order to compete in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and represent their country, players would have one day to travel from Fort Worth to Glasgow, which is about six hours behind Fort Worth.
She remarked that tennis governing organizations weren’t able to come to an agreement on something as fundamental as the calendar of tournaments.
This left players with one day to travel around the globe and adjust to the various time zones. The Polish tennis player decried that this is hazardous to her health and raises the probability of sustaining an injury.
Swiatek adds that the calendar also affects their fans too and she hopes that it will change soon. She is requesting WTA and ITF to make slight adjustments to the tennis calendar to accommodate everyone.
