Tanzanian giants Simba SC made a massive statement win over the weekend, thrashing Mtibwa Sugar 5-0 to bounce back from their loss against Azam last week in the Premier League.

Simba had seen their unbeaten start put to an end by Azam, but they responded in emphatic fashion, Pape Ousmane Sakho striking a brace with more goals from Mzamiru Yassin, Moses Phiri and Augustine Okrah.

Yassin broke the deadlock for Simba in the 38th minute when he brilliantly picked up the ball inside the box, set himself up with one touch and firing a brilliant low shot past the keeper.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi took them 1-0 lead to the break, but they emerged from the break a completely different animal. They doubled their tally just three minutes after the restart when Ousmane Sakho raced to a defense splitting pass from Moses Phiri before scoring low past the keeper.

Phiri with the second assist

Phiri then had his second assist of the game in the 63rd minute when he headed the ball down for Okrah and the Ghanaian doing the rest of the work with a brilliant finish on the volley for a 3-0 advantage.

Phiri then had a goal for himself in the 73rd minute, this time a looped ball behind the defense finding his run and the Zambian controlling before firing a low shot past the keeper.

Sakho then completed his brace in added time when he headed home from the edge of the six yard box off a brilliant Gadiel Michael cross from the left.

The win sees Simba remain second with 17 points, same as Azam and two ahead of Namungo. Namungo were held to a 1-1 draw by Tanzania Prisons.

Yanga remained the only unbeaten team in Tanzania and retains top of the table status after edging out Geita Gold 1-0 at their backyard.

Bernard Morrison scored the solo goal from the penalty spot at the stroke of halftime after a handball inside the box. It was his second goal since returning to Yanga from arch rivals Simba SC.

Kiyovu Sports shine in Rwanda

Meanwhile in Rwanda, Kiyovu Sports moved top of the standings after thrashing Musanze 3-0.

Ugandan forward Erissa Sekisambu scored the opener for Kiyovu in the 55th minute, before Bienvenue Mugenzi and Abedi Bigirimana netted the second and third goals in the 60th and 70th minutes.

Kiyovu head coach Alain Andre Landeut was pleased with the performance of the team and warned that the victory shows they are title contenders this term.
