Max Verstappen set history in the Mexico City Grand Prix by becoming the first driver to win 14 races in a single F1 season.
Verstappen held off a challenge from Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes in the first rounds before storming away to win the race. The 25-year-old has won 14 out of 20 races this season.

Max Verstappen’s 14th win of the season puts him clear of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who won 13 races in 2004 and 2014, respectively.
Mercedes went into the race on Sunday with hopes of being champions. However, the double silver champion was never letting anyone finish ahead of him. He took an unmatched campaign win tally in the Mexico Grand Prix.
Mercedes started the race on the ‘medium’ tyre while Red Bull started on the ‘soft’ tyre.
Max Verstappen held the lead into the first corner for the second time in five races in Mexico. Lewis Hamilton, who was a bit behind, managed to go past Russell in the second turn and put some pressure on Verstappen.
However, the pressure dissipated on lap 25 after Red Bull stopped for tyres, fitting the mediums. Mercedes stopped four laps later to fit in the hards.
At this point, Lewis Hamilton was set to go without changing the tyres until the end of the race. However, the hard tyre was not a good choice for the Mercedes driver who complained about their performance.
But the engineers assured him that the mediums would drop away towards the end of the race and he would go past Red Bull, which never happened.
Hamilton began to drop away from Max Verstappen in the final laps, eventually finishing 6.5 seconds behind. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished third ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell.
Daniel Ricciardo earned the driver of the day for his amazing efforts.
Max Verstappen’s victory at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez was a dominant display in an unremarkable race.

Max Verstappen was clearly enjoying the moment as he stood in the amphitheatre before a massive crowd. Red Bull have now won nine races in a row and have 16 from 20 this season. There are two more races remaining this year – Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

Speaking after his record-breaking win, Verstappen said that he is proud to have broken the record for the number of races won in a single F1 season.
“I never thought I would be able to win 14 races in a year, I’m incredibly proud. We’re definitely enjoying it, and we’ll try to go for more.” Max Verstappen said, as per The Guardian.
