Kandie, Mateiko to compete at Valencia Half Marathon

  • The annual running event has been held in Valencia, Spain since 1988 and it’s categorized by World Athletics as Gold Label Road Race organized by the Valencian sports club SD Correcaminos.
  • Kandie will be making his entry to the Valencia Half Marathon with a personal best of 57:32.
  • The Half Marathon is slated for October 23.

Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie and Daniel Mateiko will be among the 19 Kenyan athletics team competing at this years Valencia Half Marathon slated for October 23.

Kandie who is also the Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medalist will be making his entry to the Valencia Half Marathon with a personal best of 57:32, a time record he won at the 2020 Valencia Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain.

Prior to Commonwealth Games he was also placed second at the Semi Marathon de Lille in March this year.

Mateiko on his side is considered the second fastest on the list after Kandie with a personal best of 58:26 recorded last at the 2021 Valencia Half Marathon.

He was also placed second at the N Kolay Istanbul Half after clocking 1:00:05.

Other Kenyan Athletes on the list

The Kenyan team with up to 19 athletes will include thirteen sportsmen and six ladies looking for a marathon record.
Among them will be Kennedy Kimutai with a personal best of 58:28), Bernard Ngeno 59:07, Rodgers Kwemoi with a personal best 58:30, Alfred Barkach 59:36 and Ronald Kirui 59:38.

Isaac Kipkemboi will also be on the track with his last half marathon record time of 1:00:30.

Laban Kiplimo, Sebastian Sawe, Edward Cheserek, Boniface Kibiwott and Weldon Langat have also confirmed they’ll be competing at the 2022 Valencia Half Marathon in Valencia.

Vicoty Chepngeno will be leading the Women’s team with her being the fastest with a personal best of 1:05:03 recorded at the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in January this year.

She also competed at the N Kolay Istanbul Copenhagen Half Marathon finishing in the fourth and ninth positions respectively.

Margaret Chelimo will also be on the track and she is considered the second fastest with a personal time of 1:05:26, a time recorded won at the eDreams Barcelona Half Marathon.

She is the World 10,000m bronze medalist.

Other Kenyan female athletes in the race will include Agnes Ngolo, Irene Kimais, Purity Komen and Vivian Melly.

Hawi Feysa from Ethiopia with a personal best of 1:05:41 recorded at the 2021 Copenhagen Half Marathon will be on the race.

The men’s race will also see an Ethiopian trio of Milkesa Mengesha, Yomif Kejelcha and Tadese Worku line up for a the race with Mengesha holding personal best of 58:58 recorded at the Copenhagen Half Marathon this year.

He also won the Aramco Houston Half Marathon after clocking 1:00:24.

Kejelcha on his side holds a personal best of 59:05. He also won the 2019 Valencia Marathon while Worku will be making his debut in the long distance.
