Todd Boehly suggested a north vs south Premier League All-Star game to help English football raise more money.
Todd Boehly also suggested that there should be no straight relegation for Premier League teams. Boehly wants a tournament for the bottom four teams to decide who goes down.
Chelsea boss Todd Boehly has suggested that the English Premier League introduce an all-star game in England’s top division.
Boehly believes that the all-star North vs South game would raise a lot of money for the English football pyramid.
According to the businessman who completed Chelsea’s takeover in May, the Premier League could learn much from American sports in generating revenue.

Boehly’s idea of an All-Star game comes from American sports such as the MLB, NBA and NFL. The sports host annual All-Star games in which the best players from the different teams participate.
Todd Boehly’s idea would see top stars in the English Premier League face off in an exhibition match. The best players from the north teams, such as Liverpool and Manchester City, could face the best from teams in the south like Arsenal and Chelsea.
The American international also suggested that there should be no straight relegation for three teams. This is also an idea to generate more revenues for English football.
Boehly’s idea of relegation is that there should be a tournament involving the bottom four teams to decide who goes for relegation and who remains.
According to Todd Boehly, the MLB All-Star game raised 200 million dollars this year within two days – Monday and Tuesday.
“I hope the Premier League takes a little bit of a lesson from American sports and really starts to figure out, ‘Why wouldn’t we do a tournament with the bottom four teams? Why isn’t there an All-Star game?’ You could do a North vs South All-Star game in the Premier League and fund whatever the pyramid needed very easily.” Boehly said.
However, not everyone agrees with Todd Boehly’s idea of an All-Star game. In a post-match interview last night, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that the idea could not easily succeed in the English Premier League.
According to Klopp, the All-Star games happen in America because the leagues have four-months breaks. And that gives them enough time to do a few sports during that period.
Todd Boehly also spoke about Thomas Tuchel’s sacking during his talk at the SALT conference in New York. According to the co-owner of the Blues, Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel because he did not share the same vision as the club’s new owners.
He praised Thomas Tuchel, describing him as an obviously extremely talented individual who had great success with Chelsea. However, the new management didn’t see what they needed in Thomas Tuchel.
The decision to sack Thomas Tuchel was not made within a day or after a single loss. And that means that the German international’s sacking had nothing to do with Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
