Since the 2014 season, Formula One implemented the Super Licence penalty points system to accumulate fines for infractions. A maximum of twelve points accumulates on a driver’s Super Licence before disciplinary action is initiated.

Worth to note is that all points accrued on a Super Licence remain in effect for 12 months before they clear out. In short, they last a whole season, and you get a one-race ban.

WHAT IS F1 RACE BAN?

If a driver reaches twelve points, his or her Super License gets banned for the next season. This means they become ineligible to race for 12 months which sums up all about F1 penalty points race ban.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET TOO MANY PENALTY POINTS IN F1?

Any points assessed to a driver’s license remain there until the end of the following year. However, accumulating 12 of these points within a year spells serious disaster. You get a race exclusion for no good reason at all.

To this moment, no driver has reached the maximum point total of 12. However, Romain Grosjean and Max Verstappen sometime got twenty-one penalty points from stewards

However, this total takes into account expired points. On the other hand, Sergio Pérez and Marcus Ericsson are the only drivers to be assessed penalty points in five past seasons.

DO F1 PENALTY POINTS RESET?

Infractions of F1 laws come with not just monetary fines but also point deductions to keep people from lowering the bar too low. After 12 months, the points reset.

Nevertheless, a 12-point accumulation during that time will result in a race ban. After accumulating 12 points, a driver is automatically disqualified from the next race, and their score is reset to zero.

After 12 months, points are no longer valid. It’s impossible for a driver to get a perfect 12, but there are some who get close.
