Wrestling is a family business, and that’s why it’s quite common these days to hear that a performer is a second, third or even fourth-generation wrestler.

Having a precede relative in wrestling plays a massive role in building your career as a professional wrestler. Some wrestlers are successful due to their families’ passion for professional wrestling. 

Many wrestling promotions are family owned for generations upon generation. The McMahon family is a perfect example showing that wrestling professional wrestling is a family business. 

This article will look at the top five greatest families in professional wrestling. 

1. The McMahon Family

The McMahon family have had a significant influence in wrestling for several decades. 

Vince McMahon is the founder and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He is a third-generation wrestling promoter. 

Vince bought his father’s wrestling promotion and turned it into the biggest wrestling company in the world. The children of Vince McMahon are the current rulers of the WWE company.

Stephanie McMahon, Vince’s daughter, is the chairwoman and Co-chief Executive Officer of WWE. She is the authority figure at the Raw, SmackDown and NXT brands. Stephanie has held the WWF Women’s Championship and is married to Triple H.

Shane McMahon, Vince’s son, is a former professional wrestler who once won the Hardcore Championship and SmackDown Tag Team Championship. He also won the 2018 WWE World Cup. 

2. The Anoa’i Family 

The Anoa’i family has produced more wrestlers than any other. Some modern generation wrestlers from the family include Roman Reigns, The Usos and Dwayne Johnson ‘The Rock’.

The Anoa’i family have been rulers of the ring for generations. Other famous members of the family are Rikishi, Umaga, and Yokozuna. WWE female superstar Naomi is part of the family by marriage. She is married to Jimmy Uso. 

The Rock is undoubtedly the most successful member of the Anoa’i family. He has enjoyed great success in WWE and acting. Next to The Rock is Roman Reigns, who is the current and longest reigning WWE Universal Champion. 

The twin brothers, The Usos, are the current Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. They are holding the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in their fifth reign and the Raw Tag Team Championship in their third reign. 

3. The Hart Dynasty

The Hart Dynasty is another big family in the wrestling world. The family, also known as the Hart Foundation, has produced several wrestling superstars over the years. 

Stu Hart, born in 1915, is the patriarch of the family. He is a former professional wrestler, promoter and trainer. Stu had his own wrestling company known as Stampede Wrestling. 

The Canadian international gave birth to twelve children who followed in his footsteps and became professional wrestlers. Bret Hart is the most successful member of the Hart Dynasty. The Hitman has captured the WWF title five times. 

4. The Rhodes Family

The Rhodes family was a staple of WWE for several decades. Each member of the group has represented the family in different eras of WWE. 

Dusty Rhodes was the family’s icon in the Hulkamania era. The charismatic polka-dot clad won three NWA Heavyweight titles. His son, Dustin Rhodes, represented the family in WWE between 1995 and 2019. 

Dusty Rhodes, popularly known as Goldust, won several championships, including two United States Heavyweight Championships and three Intercontinental Championships. 

Cody Rhodes is the current icon of the Rhodes Family. He is a tag team and intercontinental champion in WWE. 

5. The Flairs 

Ric Flair is popularly described as the greatest wrestler of all time by journalists and multiple peers. The 73-year-old American is the patriarch of the Flairs. 

Ric’s sons David and Reid are not as successful as their father in the wrestling world. However, his daughter Charlotte has enjoyed great success in McMahon’s company.

Charlotte is arguably the most successful female wrestler of all time. She has won the Divas title and also held women’s championships in Raw, NXT and SmackDown.
