Who are the most expensive signings in Bundesliga?

  • Less than two weeks remain for the transfer window to close, and clubs are winding up their market activities
  • Most of the elite clubs in Europe are known for overspending on the market
  • But the top German clubs are renowned for smart business rather than overspending on transfers.

The summer transfer market is currently underway, and European clubs are spending significant money to bolster their rosters in preparation for the next season.

Already, there have been a few significant financial transactions. We may be confident that there will be a few more of them before the window shuts.

When it comes to the transfer window, German clubs rarely get a bad rap for excessive expenditure because of their reputation for being astute businesspeople.

However, this does not mean people are reluctant to reach into their purses for money when required. There have been some significant financial investments made by Bundesliga clubs over several years.

The following is a list of the top ten most costly transfers in the history of the Bundesliga.

6. Corentin Tolisso to Bayern Munich- £37.35 million

Corentin Tolisso’s move from Lyon to Bayern Munich for a fee of £37.35 million surpassed Martinez’s previous record for the most money spent on a player’s transfer.

In addition, at the time, this was a record for the most money that Lyon had ever earned from the sale of one of its players. In the summer of 2017, the player signed a contract to play for Bayern Munich.

Because of his outstanding play in the two seasons prior to making his big-money move, Tolisso was able to secure this opportunity. He was presented with numerous attractive offers from other clubs, the most notable of which was Napoli.

Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich- £38.25m

Dayot This drew the attention of a number of significant clubs throughout Europe. In the end, the French international player made his decision to sign for Bayern Munich, which invoked his release clause.

The transfer of the defender to Bayern Munich took place in the summer of 2021 and cost the club a total of 38.25 million pounds.

4. Julian Draxler to Wolfsburg- £38.5 million

And the list of the most expensive signings wouldnt be complete without Julian Draxler. Draxler won World Cup with Germany as well as the DfB Pokal Cup with Schalke before he joined Wolfsburg at the age of 22.

Both of these victories came before Draxler signed for Wolfsburg. He had played for Schalke in 171 games and had scored 30 goals for the club.

It should not have come as a surprise to anyone that Wolfsburg broke their transfer record in order to sign him to play for them.

When Wolfsburg bought Draxler for them the day before the transfer deadline in 2015, they had to pay Schalke 38.7 pounds.

However, the move was not fruitful since he only spent one and a half seasons with Wolfsburg before heading to PSG. This indicates that the deal was not a success.

3. Leroy Sane to Bayern Munich- £54 million

During his time with Manchester City, Sane was a part of three Premier League championship teams.

Sane was selected to replace Robben and Ribery when they left Bayern, and the club made the decision to sign the German international after he was named for the role.
