Mohamed Salah donates to help rebuild a church in Giza, Egypt

  • Mohamed Salah has donated three million Egyptian pounds to help rebuild a church in his native. A fire outbreak brought down the church on Sunday.
  • At least 41 people who were at the church died. 18 of the 41 people were children.

Mohamed Salah donated a whooping three million Egyptian dollars ($156,965) to a church destroyed by fire in Egypt. He first sent his condolences to the victims of the St Abu-Seifen church before making his donation.

According to reports, at least 41 people died at the Abu Seifen church across the Nile from Cairo on Sunday. 18 out of the 41 deaths were children. The fire, which blocked the exit of the church, struck when 1,000 people had gathered for Sunday service.

Officials in Egypt believe that an electrical fault in the air conditioning of the church is responsible for the fire outbreak. Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, ordered the military to reconstruct the church while sending his condolences to the family.

It is not the first time Mohamed Salah has made a generous donation to his home country. The Liverpool forward previously donated $3.2 million to a cancer institute in Cairo, Egypt. The institute suffered damage after a car bomb in 2019.
