Lewis Hamilton has revealed that as Mercedes’ disappointing season continues, he uses meditation to combat his negative moments.

Hamilton claimed he “cleared his mind” through a variety of meditation methods, one of which was running.

When things get rough, he turns to meditation to “provide clarity” and get his thoughts in order. He says this season made him realize that there are plenty of various ways of meditating.

The seven-time Formula One champion understands that it’s not just about sitting there and being quiet for a time, he told GQ.

He explains that running is a form of meditation that works for him. It is the place where he gets focus and clarity of the mind. He adds that a healthy, happy lifestyle also includes taking time each day to sit quietly, reflect, and set positive intentions for the day ahead.

Meditation is a great way to get in touch with oneself and reflect on the day’s goals, he notes. Thus he has trained himself to replace any negative self-talk with positive affirmations whenever possible.

During the previous season, Hamilton shared a photo of him and his father relaxing during meditation. His remarks follow his experience of fighting at a lower position in the standings than in prior seasons as Mercedes works through their problems.

Silver Arrows continue to lag behind Red Bull and Ferrari, preventing them from mounting serious title challenges. Hamilton’s disappointing 13th place finish in the season-opening Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna gave the squad a poor first impression.

However, the German automaker recently implemented changes that have significantly boosted productivity. Mercedes has improved in five races in a row on the podium.

It also includes a second-place finishing in France and Hungary Grand Prixes. For the second half of the season, though, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has given Hamilton and teammate George Russell a new objective.

He insists that they both get better qualifying times on Saturdays to be in a better position to take advantage of Mercedes’ blistering race pace.

Even though Russell got the squad their first pole position of the year in Hungary, the team has struggled in this regard throughout the season’s first 13 races.

Russell said the distance was just too big, but they are strong. What remains is working smarter to hit the qualifying time.

As such, the Mercedes is all about trying to understand what it is. The team is looking at raising its qualifying performance in the second half of the season and hopefully win.

Hamilton spoke of meditation as his coping mechanism amid retirement talks that he brushed off. He says that he will be the oldest in Formula One but it doesn’t bother him.

He said that staying on the grind is solely because his main objective is to restore Mercedes back to winning.

“I am thinking about how I can improve this car, what the next step is we need to get this team winning again, what is the road map to winning another world championship,” he stated.
