Kenya Police FC arrive in Rwanda for pre-season training

• Kenya Police will be in Rwanda for two weeks
• They are scheduled to play Rayon Sports on Sunday
• Police are looking to battle for the FKF Premier League this season

FKF Premier League side Kenya Police FC have arrived in Kigali Rwanda, ahead of a two-week training program to prepare for the new season, protracted to kick off next month.

Police are scheduled to kick off their camp proper on Sunday when they take on Rayon Sports in their first friendly at the Stade Nyamirambo in Kigali.

Team Manager George Maelo says it has been important for them to head out of the country for preparations, as it will help gauge themselves against tougher opposition.

“As a team, we needed to prepare in the best way possible and playing against tougher teams is the best way to do that. We have been in training for the past five weeks and this will be the climax where we will raise the intensity and try to build a cohesive unit,” said the tactician.

Police finished ninth last season despite a huge investment in their squad and they will look to make an improvement on that, with a lofty target of clinching the title. Maelo says their bosses have made it clear they should be going for their maiden FKF Premier League title.

“Looking at the way we have set up the squad and the investment we have made to improve and prepare, we should be in pole position to challenge for the title. The payers know that, the coaches know that too and we are ready for the challenge,” he added.

Apart from Rayon Sport, Police have also planned to face off with AS Kigali, coached by former AFC Leopards and Bandari tactician Cassa Mbungo as well as Rwanda Police. AS Kigali have within their ranks two Kenyan players Lawrence Juma and Fredrick Odhiambo as well as former Gor Mahia striker Jack Tuyisenge.

Meanwhile, Police have lost the services of midfielder Duncan Otieno who has penned a two-year deal with Botswana top tier side Gaborone United. Also joining Gaborone is striker John Mark Makwatta who had been loaned to AFC Leopards by Police.

The duo have already joined their new employers and have trained with them.

“They are a really good side, well organized and I am happy to be here. We have been welcomed really well and hopefully, we have a good season,” Makwatta said.

He added; “The incentive of playing in the CAF Champions League was huge and that is why we made the decision to come. Personally, I am glad to take on a new challenge and I am looking forward to keeping scoring goals.”

Despite the departure of the two, Police have done well to cushion their season with new signings. They have brought on board the KCB duo of Baraka Badi and Reagan Otieno as well as forward David Okoth from Kakamega Homeboyz.

Also joining the uniformed forces is midfielder Patillah Omotto from Kariobangi Sharks.
