Monfils, who is 35 years old and currently ranked No. 22 in the world, made his comeback to the ATP Tour last week for the first time since May after undergoing a routine procedure to treat an injury to his right foot.
Last week, he competed in the Canadian Masters and won two matches before his injury issues flared up again during a game against Jack Draper of Britain. As a result, he was forced to retire in the middle of that match.

The Frenchman had a rough start to the second half of 2021. However, he rebounded to have a better second half of the season. He carried over his strong play into 2022, when he won the Adelaide International.
He suffered a heel injury in May that kept him out of action until August when he suffered another injury that will keep him out of play for at least a month. Gael Monfils was able to reach the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
The beginning of the United States Open is on August 29.
The draw for the United States Open will take place on August 25, and the event will run from August 29 to September 11.
Since making his debut at Flushing Meadows in 2005, this will be the fourth time that Monfils will be unable to compete in the US Open.
