The Spanish sensation, who had just emerged from a lengthy break, won the Australian Open and the French Open, establishing his status as a true sporting great.
The former world number one extended his lead over Novak Djokovic as well as Roger Federer in the Grand Slam records while also putting an end to the possibility of retirement.
Fans excited to see Nadal training ahead of the US Open
Rafael Nadal was seen training hard at his tennis facility in Mallorca in preparation for the US Open, having recovered from the injury that halted his Wimbledon career.
Fans were devastated when the reigning French Open champion pulled out of the Wimbledon semi-finals against Nick Kyrgios due to an injury. However, it is a relief for the fans to see Nadal training ahead of the US Open
The Spanish Tennis player is aiming for a third major victory this season in Flushing Meadows, which would bring his Grand Slam singles to count to 23, and he has shown improvement in his recovery from this recent injury.
Nadal captioned his training photographs on social media with a “back to work!” caption, which indicates Nadal is on track to make his latest return from surgery at the season’s last Grand Slam, which begins on August 29.
Despite Nadal’s anguish at seeing his great adversary, Novak Djokovic, climb to within one major win of his total after securing his seventh triumph at the All England Club, the Spaniard has had a fantastic year.
His main ambition is to compete in the US Open, something he hasn’t done since 2019. Unless implausible last-minute developments occur, his everlasting rival Novak Djokovic will be unable to go to the United States due to a lack of Coronavirus vaccination.
