Robert Lewandowski has admitted that forcing his move from Bayern Munich to Barcelona was a difficult task.

The Polish international has secured his dream transfer to Camp Nou, where he will link up with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, and Raphinha.

Lewandowski, 33, became Barcelona’s fourth summer signing upon putting pen to paper, joining Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, and the aforementioned Raphinha in joining the club this transfer window.

Despite well-documented financial problems, Barcelona has activated several levers to enable them to sacrifice future money for an immediate cash injection.

This process has seen them sign the stars they have this year, and remain in the hunt for the likes of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

Lewandowski cost Barcelona €50 million and will join an impressive forward line that head coach Xavi will be able to fire them back to the top of the Spanish top flight, as well as improve upon their 2021-22 Champions League group stage exit.

Following the conclusion of the Bundesliga season, the Poland star made it clear that he wished to leave Bayern Munich, revealing his era at the club was over while on international duty.

However, while he had his heart set on a move to Barcelona, the two clubs were locked in an intense negotiation that lasted weeks. As a result, the move was in a little doubt, but Barcelona was able to strike a deal with Bayern, who have signed Sadio Mane already this window.

Lewandowski has now met up with his new teammates in Miami for their pre-season tour in the USA. The player himself has revealed that sealing the move wasn’t an easy process.

What has Lewandowski said?

The former Borussia Dortmund star said: “[It] was very hard work to join Barcelona but in the end, I am here.

“We know we have work to do. We have huge potential in the team and huge quality. I am ready to be a part of this big club with an amazing history. And doing the new history. I am very, very happy.

“For me as a striker, I always have to be ready to score goals, to help the team win the game. The most important thing is winning the game,” he said.

“It is the best solution. It is a new challenge for me as well. I know in football you have to be always hungry and I am still hungry with my mentality: winning the game, scoring the goals.

“I am in the right position now.”

Lewandowski could make his Barcelona debut in their pre-season friendly against Juventus on 27 July.
