On July 16, 2014, Atlético Madrid revealed that they had reached an agreement with Benfica for the transition of Oblak, subject to a medical examination.
Atlético Madrid paid €16 million for the Slovenian goalkeeper, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in La Liga history.
Oblak was signed on a six-year loan from Chelsea as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who had decided to return to his parent club after his loan had expired.

Oblak made his debut for Slovenia’s under-21 team in August 2009, replacing the injured Jan Koprivec. On September 9th, 2011, he debuted against France in the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers.
On September 11, 2012, the Slovenian goalkeeper made his senior team debut, starting in a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the road.
After Samir Handanovi retired from international duty at the end of 2015, he became Slovenia’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Still, even so, he took a break from international duty during the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League due to an arm injury he was fighting at the time.
