Gor Mahia finished off the FKF Premier League season on a winning note as Peter Lwasa’s double delivered a 2-1 victory over FC Talanta at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.

K’Ogalo were set to wrap their season against Mathare United next weekend when the final matches of the season were played, but the latter were expelled from the top tier after dishing out three consecutive walkovers.

Talanta themselves dished out a walkover last weekend when they failed to show up against Kakamega Homeboyz, but seemingly sorted the problems they had when they showed up against Gor.

“We talked and resolved the issues and now that is behind our backs,” said Ken Kenyatta, the Talanta FC head coach.

Meanwhile, Gor finished off with a win, but cannot finish higher than fourth spot.

“It has been a tough season but it is good to finish strong. We take the lessons we have learnt and hopefully prepare better for next season. We have played most of the season with young players but they have shown their quality,”  said the coach.

Against Talanta, Gor played with minimal pressure and they easily had most of the chances especially in the first half.

Gor dominated the game in the first half with Benson Omala heading wide from George Odhiambo’s cross in what was an early threat after just seven minutes. Lwasa hit the side netting from inside the box minutes later, a quick turn of play catching his marker off guard.

Dennis Nganga also forced the Talanta keeper to a smart save with a freekick from range.

Talanta struggled on the offensive front and the closest chance they had was when Vincent Owino picked up the ball from range, but his rasping shot was turned away for a corner by teen Gor keeper Dolph Owino.

K’ Ogalo ultimately broke the deadlock two minutes to the break when Lwasa tapped into an empty net after being picked up by a brilliant cross from George Odhiambo. It was a perfect ending for Gor who picked a gift after a good start to the game.

Talanta started the second half better and had chances to score but their poor finishing cost them with the duo of Francis Kahiro and Michael Jairo having chances but going begging.

They were punished for the missed opportunities when Lwasa doubled his tally for the evening with a delightful finish. The Ugandan forward picked up a long clearance from keeper Dolph before gliding past the keeper and tapping into an empty net.

Talanta were rattled and tried to get their act together, pushing for a turnaround.

They gave in a push and with four minutes left on the clocked halved the deficit when Mathew Angel curled in a beautiful freekick into the top left corner from the edge of the box.

The goal gave Talanta some hope and belief and with four minutes added on, they pushed in, forcing Gor to defend deep, but they couldn’t scrape for a draw.
