Usain Bolt, in full Usain St. Leo Bolt, is one of the most famous athletes in the world. The Jamaican sprinter is the fastest man in the world. Bolt set the record by sprinting a 100 m race in 9.58 seconds. 

Early Life

Usain Bolt was born in Sherwood, Jamaica, on August 21, 1986. 

Bolt has one brother (Sadiki) and a sister (Sherine). Their parents ran a grocery shop in the rural area. 

Usain Bolt spent the majority of his childhood playing football in the streets. He also loved playing cricket with his friends. Bolt wanted to be a cricket player. He admired the bowling of cricket legend Waqar Younis as a child. 

Usain Bolt grew up in a Christian family. He attended the Seventh-day Adventist in his neighbourhood. 

Bolt attended Waldensia Primary School in Jamaica, where he discovered his sprinting potential. He ran in his parish’s annual national primary school meet. Bolt became the fastest runner in his school while he was just 12 years old. 

Usain Bolt joined William Knibb Memorial High School, where he focused on playing cricket. He also created time to play football at school. However, the school’s cricket coach noticed his speed on the pitch and advised him to try track and field events. 

Usain Bolt joined the school’s athletics club and was coached by Pablo McNeil, a former Olympic sprint athlete. Pablo McNeil encouraged Bolt to focus his energy on improving his sprinting ability. 

Bolt won his first-ever 100 m race medal in 2001 during the annual high school championships. He bagged a silver medal in the 200 m race in the same tournament. 

 Career

Usain Bolt represented his country for the first time in 2001 during the CARIFTA Games. He won a silver medal in the 200m race. 

Bolt made his first appearance on the world stage at the 2001 IAAF World Youth Championships in Debrecen, Hungary. He failed to qualify for the finals at the tournament. 

Bolt, however, became the hero at the tournament the following year when he won the 200m and 400m races. He also won the 200m and 200m races at the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships. 

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, P.J. Patterson, recognized Bolt’s talent and arranged for him to travel from his rural home to Kingston so he could train with the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA). 

Bolt got interest from the press in 2003 when he equalled Roy Martin’s world junior record of 20.13 seconds in the 200m race. The Jamaican star rose rapidly in the athletics world. He quickly became a star as he participated in Olympics and Diamond League tournaments. 

Bolt became the fastest man in the world when he completed a 200m race in 9.58 seconds. He set the record in 2009 when he was just 23 years old. Bolt is one of the most decorated athletes, having won so many medals in his career.

He retired from athletics in 2017 when he was 31 years old. Bolt finished third in his last solo 100m race. 

Personal life

Usain Bolt is a family man. The Jamaican lives with his long-time girlfriend, Kasi Bennett. The two gave birth to their first child, Olympia Lightning Bolt, born on May 17, 2020. Bolt and his girlfriend were blessed with twin boys named Saint Leo and Thunder in June 2021.

Bolt has a net worth of $90 million and is the most paid athlete in the history of sprinting. The Jamaican has endorsement deals with big companies like Puma, which continue to earn him cash. 

Usain Bolt is a big fan of Premier League club Manchester United. Bolt told The Guardian in November 2016 that he would one day love to play for the Red Devils. He also supports Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga. 

Bolt is a music producer specializing in dancehall. He has worked with some big names in the music industry, such as Christopher Martin and Ding Dong. Bolt is also an artist as he released a single titled “Leaving the Dream” in January 2021.

Usain Bolt owns a restaurant in his home country. The restaurant is a music and sports bar called Tracks and Records. Bolt is also the founder of the Usain Bolt Foundation, which is dedicated to the legacy of children’s happiness. The foundation offers educational and cultural developments to children.
