So how did PSG manage to convince Mbappe to sign a new contract and reject Real Madrid?

Mbappe’s initial contract was due to end on June 30, and it was widely publicized that Madrid had agreed to sign him on a free transfer.

However, a final agreement never materialized, with Mbappe finally deciding to sign a new contract with PSG that will hold him at Parc des Princes for the next three years.

In their fruitful bid to keep goalscorer Kylian Mbappe, Paris Saint-Germain promised to make radical changes to the club’s structure and pay him a shocking $817,000 per week.

The tar strikers, 23, turned down Real Madrid’s offer to sign a new contract that will keep him at Parc des Princes for three years, ending a lengthy transfer saga. 

Mbappe promptly followed the announcement with a hat-trick in a match against Metz on Saturday evening, bringing his season goal total to 39.

According to L’Equipe, on Sunday, Mbappe was promised a comprehensive reform of the club’s leadership and a change in direction from global marketing of the club’s brand to doing everything it takes to win the Champions League.

Mbappe’s final choice was also strongly affected by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had spoken with the French striker multiple times over the mobile in recent months.

Macron contended that it would be best if Mbappe stayed in Paris because he is widely recognised as an icon in the city and could be in the spotlight when the Olympic Games are held there in 2024.

Another significant element is PSG’s willingness to hand over control of Mbappe’s image rights. According to sources in Spain, while Real was willing to give forward control of 65 per cent of these lucrative rights, PSG was much more flexible.

Both the French club and Real Madrid were prepared to pay Mbappe a signing-on fee of about $157 million in wages and bonuses.

Fayza Lamari, Mbappe’s mother, stated that the 23-year-old had concluded talks with both clubs over ‘almost the exact offers. Mbappe ultimately decided to stay.

 PSG has been the World Cup winner since 2017, but he already has a remarkable goal record of 168, trailing only Edinson Cavani in the club’s all-time top scorers list.

He has three Coupe de France trophies and four Ligue 1 titles, and three Coupe de France trophies during his period in Paris, as well as being named the 2021/22 UNFP Ligue 1 Player of the Year. 

Mbappe revealed his contract renewal via Twitter video and in-person even before the kickoff against Metz.

Mbappe and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi popped up on the pitch to hold the team’s kit with the name ‘Mbappe 2025,’ indicating the length of his contract extension.

Laliga filed a complaint against PSG

Following the French striker’s decision, LaLiga issued a striking statement in which they stated their intention to report PSG’s course of action to UEFA and the French authorities.

The Spanish league has stated that they will file a complaint because the Frenchman’s new contract at PSG threatens Europe’s economic stability of football in Europe.

He also made aware the PSG star of his responsibility as a role model for the next generation, urging him to weigh the advantages of pursuing his career in his home country.

Mbappe’s passion for the PSG was also a significant factor, as he aspires to become the club’s most outstanding player and break Cavani’s all-time scoring record.
